I couldn't find a topic on this so I am just going to make my own. Have any of you experienced the dirt blocks breaking sound out of nowhere? I have heard it a lot now and I don't get it. I would just say this a sound glitch and call it a day but I am Not mining when I get this sound. I can just be walking around, seeing what I can find ((ON PEACEFUL MODE fyi)) and just stay in one spot and listen to the blocks breaking. It's defiantly the dirt breaking sound. I have tried digging down after a while and I've even dug up the entire ground on one spot just looking for the sound to find nothing.
I just hope someone can tell me what is going on or, at least, had the same experience with the out-of-place sounds.

I'm pretty sure they can do it now, the same thing the OP said happened to me... the only thing that could explain it would be my pet sheep eating grass.

This happened to me while diggjng out an underground house. Turned out it was a squid in the nearby ocean! If you're near water that's probably what it is. It creeped me out for quite a while

I think sheep can sometimes eat grass. I also found that if squid touch dirt in really shallow water it makes the noise.

Really? I heard the sounds of something walking on dirt when I was swimming through a lake and it creeped me out... I guess it must have been a squid. It happened quite a few times too. I don't understand how squids bumping against dirt blocks can make that sound though? It's weird and doesn't make sense!

Sheep cannot eat grass in this version. I have also heard these strange dirt breaking

Sheep could eat grass to regain their wool in 1.2.3 I believe. I don't think they regain their
wool in this version. I know for sure they can't eat grass.

I have heard the sounds, but have always just put it off onto nearby passive mobs hitting (i.e. jumping down onto dirt or gravel blocks). Whenever I've looked around, there has usually been a cow or pig in the area.

It's the sound of grass growing onto another dirt block. Seriously. Test it out.

Nope, I've just tested it. I've been standing still and watching the grass grow underground in my mine for about 5 minutes now (on peaceful - no mobs of any type around). I've seen 6 grass blocks fill in so far and all of them have been absolutely silent - no noise at all other than the music playing in the background.

i really think there might be something more than passive mobs going on, once i was in my slime farm 5 blocks above bedrock all caves lit up and everything and i heard it... it's hella creepy

You know how it goes. You hear someone say a word. You like it because you think it sounds funny/cool. So you too start using it. Then the following week you stop using it because it quickly become boring from over use. Then you think too yourself, "WTF was all that about? Insta-boner? It's not even funny... Or cool?!"

We've all done it.



Anyway, my guess is it was just a Sheep or something.

I actually experienced this yesterday. I was in a cave and I was just looking around.(Peaceful) Then I heard dirt mining noises, like someone was mining. Nothing was actually breaking though. Just the noise.
