This is not a thread asking for requests and has nothing to do with my sig.
I was just wondering what you guys thought about me making a redstone competion thread, probably top five. All of the competition threads in the redstone creations forum fail due to trolls. I thought it might be interesting to see if it worked out here. For the first competition I would be the judge, I might ask a second judge to join me if the winner is truly amazing. Obviously, I won't submit a creation, for reasons of bias.
Judging would be based on 3 factors, each on a scale of 5, with the total possible being 50 points.
Complexity:
(5 points)
A more technical build will score higher in this category. It's a measurement of how much "redstone trickery" was used in your build.
Creativity:
(3 points)
Get creative with your build, don't just copy some tutorial on YouTube. Builders who use their own custom designs, or use otherwise unorthodox methods in their project will score highly in this area.
Originality:
(2 points)
How original is your build? Is it a one-of-a-kind creation, or has it been done 1,000 times before? This category is only worth a total of 10 points because, let's be honest, nearly everything has already been done with redstone.
Glad to see some people like the idea! I've only seen one of these in the redstone sub-forums that actually had enough people interested to make a competition out of it.
Plus, I would like to see more redstone mega builds on MCXBLA. I figured having a prize for second competition might give some people a bit more motivation.
I'd really love to be a judge for this... Maybe have 3 judges and average/add up the scores like a lot of competitions do?
I really want to see some peoples' work before I decide on any more judges. I do know of one other guy who would be worthy of judging, he hasn't been on much lately though.
I guess, if anyone wants to be a judge, post your best redstone creation and give a detailed explanation of, not just what it does, but why and how it works.
Hmmm.... only if you could edit spawners /wo modding :/ I would make an epic ass map
Last I checked you can't even do that with mods. The best you're gonna get as far as that goes is pig spawners, and those will sometimes corrupt your save.
Well, there's some guys on PC. On MCXBLA, not as many people have fully grasped the concept of redstone yet. I need someone who is knowledgeable about all "genres" of redstone building. From electronics, to mechanical devices, automated systems, logical processing units, etc.
If someone doesn't have much knowledge on a certain aspect, the judging won't be completely fair. Basically, it has to be someone who can at least build a calculator, elevator, and a lighthouse, without any tutorials. Looking up component designs and overall diagrams is fine, just nothing that shows exactly how to build it.
Well, it's apparent this is a popular enough idea to make something out of. I'll be starting a submission thread within a week or so. Basically, the delay is because I need to get another XBL gold card. World sharing is frowned upon, so I'll need to add the creator of each submission to see the project in person. This adds another aspect to judging, personal knowledge. It won't be its own category, but it will directly influence my judgment on creativity. Through asking about how/why your creation works, I will be able to tell if you know what you're doing, or if you just copied a tutorial.
I'd contact MS before going ahead with this. Websites can get away with this, 1 single user cannot
I didn't read anything there that would prevent him from giving out prizes in the form of MSP or Gold.
EDIT: Are you referring to this: "Don’t use your account for commercial purposes (including, without limitation, trading services or in-game content for currency or Microsoft Points)."?
This sounds like a wonderful idea. Hopefully it can stay a friendly competition.
I'm certain, however, that most people would be happy enough with just exposure and bragging rights.

From what I can see, giving away subscriptions/MSP isn't addressed directly.
Don’t use your account for commercial purposes (including, without limitation, trading services or in-game content for currency or Microsoft Points).
I wouldn't be using them as any sort of currency, and would receive no personal benefit. I'll still check with MS staff and an MCF admin just to make sure everything is kosher. Either way, the first contest won't have any prizes. I want to see how good the turnout is first, then if all is legal and whatnot, I'll be giving out prizes for the next one.
Hopefully your competition will have a great turn out. I won't be submitting anything seeing how I've been pretty well addicted to the Technic pack as of late. Haha.
Nice to see a user wanting to hold a competition with prizes coming from his own pocket. Sounds like a great idea. I wouldn't join though. When It comes to redstone, I'm completely useless. I need to use a Youtube tutorial just to build a basic 2x2 piston door.
i really love the idea, and i would really like to join in! but i'm afraid that i'm not very experienced with redstone, i know id never be able to do anything worth while without more practice.
i do find youtube tutorials be very time consuming and often not very thorough.
however, if someone were to do a live show on there own server while people joined in and could get direct help, i bet people would be all over that
are any of you redstone experts interesting in teaching?

It would be interesting idea. However, most redstone "experts" are still busy trying to learn all they can themselves. It's an ongoing process. it really is. However, I will say "good luck" finding someone with the time!

Teaching is simply too time consuming. I'll be getting my gold back soon, if you want I could show you my builds and explain how they work. All of my projects are data processing machines though, they use logical algorithms. Calculators, computers, stuff like that. Some components can be applied to other systems, but it's usually not the most practical method.
Man, you know I would submit my self building and un building house... But the file was corrupted... So when I get my xbox back i will submit my regular self building house :/
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

I assume this thread will be marked as 'HOT' in a few days. In that case.... FIRST!
