Obsessive compulsion disorder, otherwise known as OCD, can be seen in Minecraft.
I believe I have a small case of this, yet I only show it in MC360. Many of you might
have strange obsessions as well. Here are a couple:
Being organized 24/7:
Chests dedicated to differentiated materials, wood blocks separate from cobblestone
in the same chests (can be with different items), etc. This isn't really a crazy obsession,
I understand people want to stay organized, but still.
Symmetry (Everything has got to be equal):
I've seen many cases of this. Sometimes people freak out if windows on their houses
are unequal, if their door/ double door is unequal, etc. This type of OCD would probably
be the most common type seen in Minecraft.
Post your weird MC obsessions. Don't be shy, we all have our own!
Another one of my obsessions is I need to have more than enough of any resource or whatever at all times. For example, I have like 30 diamonds but I don't want to make diamond tools until I get more. Also I have nearly four stacks of iron and I hate seeing it go down to three stacks. I have no idea why I'm like this, but I guess it's not really a bad thing. I am always overstocked on materials.

I recently decided I wanted to flatten out a hill near my house on one of my worlds from 85 to 75, for no reason other than to do it. I have no plans to build on it, and just stopped my current construction project to start it. Though that seems more like ADHD than OCD.
And I too have the one with the chest, though I think everyone has that one, since it makes knowing what's where much easier. Same reason you label those chest too.
I have to organize my chests. They are separated either with one item, or2-3 similar iems( ie,wood stairs, wood slabs! or fences, ladders). Also I have to have builds perfect and symetrical or it will bother me. If i notice an error like that I have to fix it no matter how much I have to replce.
Who doesn't have OCD when it comes to Minecraft? Seriously, lol. Everyone I ever talk to or talks about if they have OCD or not in minecraft says they do, everyooone. one way or another.
My own quirk, When it comes to my RPG server, I have to build everything my own, I don't trust people enough to build something good, in my experiance, I have high standards in my world.
That's techincally OCD right? Or just being an asshole. lol either or.
I have all those obsessions previously stated and more. I can never have a 2 block high house, every single one of my houses i have ever made has been 3 blocks high or more.
Torches usually have to be placed symetrically to each other in all my house, but for some reason i dont care when just lighting up an area.
I think a lot of it comes from the Minecraft community in general. Goodness...never show an uneven door on a building in a build if you don't want hundreds of comments about it.
I also think the game itself brings that out in people. There is no half vertical half block (not talking about slabs), so making a building sometimes looks obsolete since a the base of the building is forced to be a 1x1 block itself. A lot of designs are bulky be default just because of the building restrictions we have. Not that it's a bad thing.
Real OCD starts when you begin to realize that buildings need to be an odd number of blocks long and wide to accomidate a 'center'. Maybe you will need a traditional roof, or just want the door centered. All of my buildings are set up an odd number of blocks, even if I plan on a flat roof. You never know...
I'm very OCD with my builds... even when I'm replicating "natural terrain" (like my sky island, "Elysium", which took three months to build... and much of that, was due to my OCD forcing me to replicate the terrain exactly as it SHOULD be). I HAVE to keep my inventory set a certain way, at all times, my chests can only contain specific materials (Wool ONLY in the Wool chest, Cobblestone ONLY in the Cobble chest... etc). I have tons of chests, for that very reason.
It's worse when I'm ~building~ houses, though. if I want to have double doors, it MUST be built with an even number of blocks for the width. If I want a single door, it MUST be built with an odd number of blocks. Like Chains, I have to be able to build a roof with the option of it being "flat" or with a peak.
The worst is when I'm outside though. Because the worlds are randomly generated, there are often bits of one or two blocks that just don't look right, so quite often I'm just tidying up the landscape
This sounds like me when i use a cavern/cave i find that i want to mine or continuously walk in and out. Of course if you have seen David Bowie's movie Labyrinth then you might actually notice a lot of wacky stairs sometimes seeming to lead nowhere, if not just flat out everywhere. You could say i got tired of getting lost in those caves, so i did a bit of sprucing up and it lead on and on and on till i finally got most of the area touched up. Now trying to add a cart network makes some of these area more trouble as I have to think even more into what i have done with the stair.
mainly the chests I like to keep organized for the most part. After all I gotta have a vault. Hmm.. i really aught to build one, as my storage room is just not cutting it, first is my rail network. the only chests that i don't have only 1 thing in them happens to be my builders chest and adventures chest, as well some chest i keep all the non-stackable food in. I also have a chest for some of the more rare items, but that will change once i have that vault built. I mean what am i going to do with 10 saddles...
Oh yeah a few chests that are spread around at least near where i am at usually fall into the builders/adventure type. Or mining chest for when i just mine in my branches/obsidian.
As far as housing goes I build just what i think looks at least decent to me. I know i would get lots of bad and good comments if not improve ones, but hey I still am learning like the rest of us, or most.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I wouldn't really call these cases of OCD, more like cases of being a neat freak. OCD in Minecraft would be just like it is in real life, a weird ritual you feel like you have to do. It would be something like you have to drop three dirt blocks on the floor repeatedly until they land in the right area before you can leave your house.
Some OCD involves symmetry, but obsessing over it in MC is natural. It's the same way an architect would freak out if something didn't go according to design. Trust me, I used to have a very mild case of OCD, drinking from the same spot of a cup every time. If I touched one place anywhere on my body, I would have to touch it several more times, until it was 10 touches, then touch the same spot on the opposite side of my body 10 times to feel "even". Just small stuff.
I'm guilty of the chests. Everything in its place and I love labeling everything. Even if I multiple items in one chest, like mob loot, each one has it's own row, lowest number on the end. Like items will also be grouped together, like wooden things such as ladders and fences. I am very aware of single door versus double and build accordingly. Symmetry matters to me and I will adjust the landscape to avoid solid faces near buildings wherever possible. I've gotten better about letting mistake alone if they aren't major or will cause me to tear the whole build down. The time investment is weighed into those decisions. I really like to have extra resources lying around and will sometimes spend time on just filling them up so I don't have to stop in the middle of a build to gather more.

I am a Minecraft tourist. I am currently unavailable under the XBoxLIVE ID listed here but can be found under ZombieL0C0. If you see me online playing Minecraft, send a message and I will gladly take a stroll through your world.
Actually, some people feel as if they absolutely have to do some of these
things in Minecraft.
It's different. It's going to bug anyone if their build doesn't look exactly like they want it to. Some people with serious cases of OCD feel like their rituals are actually preventing a horrible event. They may think if they don't do these things they will die, or their family will die, or possibly the world may end. It can become a very serious mental delusion that simply cannot be compared to, "Oh no, my windows are off center! I have to fix them or else it will irk me!"

You'd get slapped exactly 7 times, repeatedly, until they got it just right.
