Actually, the ability to repair items such as tools & armor was added In release 1.0 for the PC version. Combining the two identical items on a crafting grid will result In a single repaired item. We should see it in the next update. (That's after 1.8.2)

Different types of arrows (firey, explosive, glue/icy).
Many types of new food.
Cooking, with actual recipes you unlock with time/as you earn achievements (with many and many combinations, each gives different effects), not just placing together in crafting bench.
Drinks.
Soda, Energetic, beer, etc (with effects you probably know...)
Wardrobes maybe?
Where you can save your current skin to later use, and maybe a built-in skin creator, with 3D preview of the character.

Oh nevermind, I thought this was for PC version.

The paint/paintbrush idea is amazing. That would be really really cool to have. Props on that, Anablephobia.

I think it would be cool to add some type of ocean mob that is hostile. For example the slaughterfish in Skyrim. I saw one person said sharks, that could be cool but maybe a little TOO dangerous, lol. Even if not hostile, maybe just territorial where if you get to close to them they attack you.

why cant they make a server list so that u dont have to add people in order to play with them

Other than that the popular decoration ideas I like are
Stained glass, painted walls, marble floors and roofing
More flowers would suit me I always felt sticking the same old red and yellow flowers is a little short of variety.
For now an alternative is sticking saplings with a block restricting their growth above them but hopefully more plants can be implemented.
More plants could add better variety of dyes.
Even add a full dye colour wheel to select from thousands of different colours for awesome pixel art.

just an idea but, what if you could make your own village and assign villagers to it and make them have certain jobs (mining, farming,hunting, robbing, etc) it would really add a lot more playability and rpg in minecraft.
