So I died during the night from a skeleton with some good items. I waited until morning to get my stuff and while I was walking, a spider came up behind me and killed me at noon time!
Why do they attack in broad daylight, and has this happened to anyone else?

So I died during the night from a skeleton with some good items. I waited until morning to get my stuff and while I was walking, a spider came up behind me and killed me at noon time!
Why do they attack in broad daylight, and has this happened to anyone else?
They should not attack you in broad daylight. Spider only attack at night, and will only attack during day light if you attack them. Also, Any items you drop when you die, will disappear after a while. You have to get back to them as quick as possible, or they will not be there. Waiting till day means, your items were probably gone. I have found out from personal experience.
They'll attack you during the day if you're near an above ground mob spawner that spawns spiders... or from what I learned yesterday, they'll attack you if they spot you during the night and you try hiding yourself. They'll chase you and wait for you to come out to try and kill you, even if it turns to day time. So one of those two possibilities. I think.
Nyokou is right. If that spider targetted you before 'day' time then he was aggro'd to you. If you could get them to take fall damage they reset, but other than that you have to kill them. Annoying no? I had to redesign my first house because my basefloor kept making spiders wait for me atop it. (before I learned how to wall and properly spider proof houses).
