What do you guys think'll happen with minecraft when the next gen xbox is released? I wish I had a way to ask 4j if they have any intention of continuing development on this and adapting to the next gen consoles when they come along, but i really dont like twitter and dont want to make one. I'm well aware that these are a long way off, I just want to know what some of you think might happen in the future.
For a more specific question, logic would dictate that next gen's consoles will be built somewhat ahead of today's average computing capabilities so they don't fall too terribly far behind the times in the years following their creation. I'm not exactly tech savvy, so for those who do or might actually know, what would it mean for the game if we got 4+ gigs of RAM and 3 or 4 times the processing power, if not more, of our current consoles and utilized all or almost all of it? I can make educated guesses, as can most of us, so if that's all you're going to do then don't bother. I want someone who actually knows something to answer this question.
Didn't I just make a post in a thread like this? Anywho, I doubt it will have 4+ gigs of RAM. But, I can almost guarantee it will have one beast of a GPU. There's a popular rumor going around that it could be an AMD Radeon 6670. The CPU will definitely have some improvement, but the current gen 360's Xenon CPU is already pretty zippy at, I think, 3.2 GHz?
i think everything will be like in pc, high version, mods, texture packs, user created skins etc.
I highly doubt they will allow user created mods, or user created anything for that matter. As for catching up to PC version, that has nothing to do with the platform.
What's gonna happen that far in the future- no one knows. By that time, you may not recognize MC. By then the xbox may be so different than the PC version the only thing in common is the name. As the CEO of 4J said: "Ultimately, the 4J team's biggest goal is to catch up to the PC version of Minecraft...and then break away in an entirely different direction.". http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/727636/building-a-better-minecraft-bridging-the-pc-and-console-gap/
Given that the xbox 720 will have better specs and additional features, and that the PC version will be pretty long in the tooth by then, for all we know we'll see a "Minecraft 2" for each platform.
Seeing as how it's called "minecraft: xbox 360 edition," I would assume that it will remain on the xbox 360. Also, I haven't looked up anything about the next xbox, but, from what I've gathered, isn't it just faster, with higher specs? If so, I would think minecraft would work for both consoles, unless Microsoft decides to screw everybody by changing the format.
Somebody mentioned a "Minecraft 2." Do you realize that would mean either doubly long waits between updates, or elimination of updates for our current version? I wouldn't be too happy with that.

What's wrong with "doubly long waits between updates" if MC2 is so much deeper and gives you tons of new stuff to do to keep you busy?
What if MC2 is so much better that you won't want to play the original anymore, much less care if it gets updated?
There's only so much icing you can put on a cake. There comes a time where you have to start over with a bigger cake.
Sorry, but I don't understand your thinking at all.

if the architecture for the next xbox is too radically different than the 360, theres a chance it wont be backwards compatible. if you need an example, look no further than the original xbox. Only a fraction of the games can be played on the 360, despite it being vastly superior, spec-wise.
I hope they make a new Minecraft for the next-gen Xbox. It would be very cool if they bring out an update for MCXBLA or a stream of updates that bring it up to at least 1.0.0, out of Beta. The main reason I don't really play Minecraft on the Xbox is because I don't like the fact that it isn't what you can play on the Computer Version.

My bad, must've missed it, but why do you doubt that? 4 is just about average for a new computer now so i would think they'd put at least that much into it.
And for everyone else, i'm not talking about making an entire new minecraft so much as adapting the one we have, to give us things we dont have like further render distance, etc. I can't even imagine what they could come up with to make an entire new game.
I reckon it will have the highest performance GPU on earth at the time of release, the 6670 is damn good but may well be outclassed next year.
If they do use an AMD GPU I also hope they will have PhysX built in because PhysX is damn good when used correctly.
I do hope the next gen xbox has MineCraft as a release title and enough RAM to support a single world of at least 4x what we have currently.
I would assume the GPU and CPU will be custom built, like they did with the 360. I just hope the heatsink on the GPU is sufficient at release this time. I know it won't be the 6670, it's just a rumor going around to build up hype. I assume they will have another GPU custom designed by Nvidia or ATI again, or maybe even some other company.

I know it's the average, but there is a lot going on in a computer, all the time. A device that's only dedicated to one game at a time simply doesn't need that much. A gaming console doesn't have nearly as much multi-tasking to do.
