I have found slimes everytime using that little slime chunk finder you find on the web. My question is how do they expect people to do this manually and find them? The chunks are not exactly all over and your chance of randomly picking one seems rather slim. One time I ran into some in a random dungeon that I would consider pretty lucky. Any tips?

I think "they" expect that if you're regularly mining ores in a level below 16, you'll eventually encounter a few slimes along the way, along with many more of the other hostile mobs. Played at a very basic level, all mob encounters are basically by chance and the rareness of the commodities they drop is, in part, controlled by the relative likelihood of their spawning incidentally around the player. Slimes spawn very slowly and only on a small percentage of chunks, so they are intended to be rarer than other mobs in the game.

If you read the tips that display in the game now and then, you'll see that they make reference to both this forum and the wiki page. They are telling you flatly "go look for info on the web". This game is too deep to figure it all out on your own.
