some how the brown mushroom is giving light in dark places. evry time i try to take a screenshot it dosen't show. does anybody have a explanation for this?. if so explain
I would guess the mushrooms need a light level of 1 to spread. Dark cave with no light would mean no mushroom growth, unless the mushrooms put off just enough light to allow growth on the next block...

I agree. This is probably the rationale for it... and it's kind of cool when you stumble across a large group of them while exploring a new cave.
It would be a neat way to light passages...at short distance in between torches. For example if you had a 3x3 passage mine out the middle block on the wall plant some shrooms and wait... Or just gather a ton of mushrooms....I'm gonna try that.
Too bad you can't eat the red an white spotted one. It could take away a heart but change the colors of everything and maybe make vision really wobbly for a minute or so.
No real added gameplay value...just something kinda neat and funny to unsuspecting players their first time eating one.
