iv been playing minecraft for ages, so im kinda bored of just building house & survivng. is there anything me and my friend can do to make it more fun.
Find a map you wanna play, look up how to turn a map into a server, then play it. Or, if you and your friend live nearby, one of you can just log on to the map and turn it into a LAN sever.
Each build a parkour course. Then, after successfully completing your own course, challenge each other to complete the other's course successfully.
Same could be done by each making a maze and challenging each other to complete each other's maze.
This could also be done with "easter eggs" by having one player leave the game and go off in another room, then the player still playing can hide a few special items somewhere within the maze (perhaps with some sign riddles as clues and then challenge the second player to rejoin the game and find them all within a specified amount of time.
The overall difficulty of completing the courses can also be changed by merely changing the difficulty level of the game... not so critical if you fall off a parkour in peaceful mode; but it could certainly be deadly in hard mode.
ETA: Some more 2-player challenges by increasing the survival ante. Start a new world without the other seeing it. Strip it of most of it's obvious and abundant renewal resources (e.g. trees, flowers, tall grass, sugar cane, cacti). Then, have the other player enter the world on Hard and see how long they go before dying the first time, while you (the first player) just follows around watching (not helping). Their turn ends when they die. Then have your friend do the same - start a new world without you seeing it. Strip it and see if you survive longer than he did.
The number of in-game variations of survival game play can be really endless. Just make up your own set of rules for playing and go from there. E.G. all players must survive without swords... no porkchops allowed... must keep a maximum of 1 small chest... no beds allowed... no moving any dirt blocks... etc. etc.
