I really hope they decide against this at some point... The more updates they cram into one, the better, imo. The less they release updates now, the more free updates they can use in the future, after we've caught up to PC's release version. It also means less MS testing, so it actually reduces time taken to release updates in the long run.

I always see everyone talking about how 4J has only a certain amount of free updates. Can anyone actually provide a source for this information?
Most likely it will be a XP update and possibly breeding(if its not forwarded in 1.8.2) in between 1.8.2 and 1.2.3, so technically not a full 1.9 or 1.0. LOL, all this enumerating makes little to no sense, could I possible fit another period in my post.....

I"ve yet to see any evidence pointing towards limited free updates... but even if there were limits i'm sure 4J would've worked something out with Microsoft seeing as Minecraft is work in progress and will probably stay that way for a while.
oh and wouldn't releasing mini updates between larger updates be quicker? since it reduces the amount of testing needed for the bigger updates, making it quicker to get the bigger updates.

From what I understand, games usually don't get any free updates. I read in some interview that it was a special deal worked out between 4J and Microsoft. Perhaps the latest Notch interview? Not sure, I'll look around.

How does that make sense? It's the same amount of testing, they can't just skip over things. But there's less "back and forth" action between 4J and MS if it's just one big update instead of several small ones.

Yes. The smaller updateswill give them time and will keep people satisfied.

Minecraft was a huge success on Xbox Live Arcade, to an almost surreal degree, and the original game was released and then you built on it. Is it frustrating to have a version of the game so many people are playing where there’s an entity between you and the players?
It’s not that bad, somehow we managed to get in the contract that we can do free updates, which they don’t do. Somehow Carl managed to do that.
Okay, so it doesn't mention a limited amount of updates. But, it does say that it's not allowed, at least not often. Since that's the case, I highly doubt they will have unlimited free updates.
We should stop enumerating these updates all together and start calling it like it is. The next update is Minecraft: Xbox edition BETA 3. Then possibly next is Minecraft: Xbox edition BETA 4. Followed by 1.X damn near final version lets call it Minecraft: Xbox edition full version(all prior versions can eat a **** release), LOL. Let the hate commence.

Your lucky it's night or there will be lots of hate.

I don't think the incessantly impatient people will be pacified even if 4J started releasing updates every week. 4J have managed to release some sort of bug fix alternating with an update in every month since the game was first released (Release on May 9th, bug fix on June 15th, 1.7.3. update on July 13th, and another bug fix on August 7th . However, people still manage to complain that it's been "months" since the last update.
The 1.7.3. update was released on July 13th, which is STILL less than 2 months ago. (as of today - September 10th) and we have confirmation that the 1.8.2 update will be released before the end of September. They are living up to their promises regarding providing regular free updates. If they hold to their current pattern and do put in a 1.9 update, it will probably sort of be a beefed up bug fix released sometime in October. Then, I'm sure, they are intent on releasing the 1.2.3 update before the big Christmas shopping push (which usually means before the U.S. Thanksgiving Day weekend).
My apologies. I had not been back to the Twitter thread to see that the tweet given was questionable. It still doesn't say that the update can't still make it for sometime in September, afterall September 30th is stil 20 days (nearly 3 weeks) away.

It will probably stay a eork in progress for as lon as the game is around and people are playing, its a game that will never be good enough and the developers will always be releasing new things. "what do you think of minecraft?" "its good but it could be better"
MS certification takes takes at least 7-10 days, usually 14 .. and even if it passes certification without any problems/delays that does not mean it will be on XBLA immediatly .. so 4J should have announced yesterday that they sent it to certification (which 4J would surely do imho), and t his still would not make it.
Just one week ago they twittered "still weeks away", so they are very likely still in heavy development and haven't even finished their own testing i'd guess.
That all doesn't fit .. i' say: never in September, be happy if its Ocotober
Your guess is as good as mine... but, it's still a guess, isn't it. I'll be happy whenever it comes. I just don't think 4J deserves all the criticism it takes from people who tend to exaggerate and imply that "less than 2 months" between updates is the same as just "months."
The fact is that we haven't been yet waiting months longer than was originally anticipated for this update, although some people have been complaining about this update being delayed for at least a couple of weeks already. The truth is that, if it were surprise released in the next few days (which I don't think it will be), the update would not even be behind schedule. Yes, 4J have said that it's still weeks away, but they did also say in that same tweet that there was testing to be done... so, they could have been including the certification testing in that statement and implying that they were almost ready to send it off for certification once they finished tweaking the Creative Mode... and that tweet was made a few days ago already. More than 3 weeks (at the time that tweet was made) is more validly "weeks" than "less that 2 months" is just "months." Best idea is to just wait and see what happens.

Forum AdminAre you sure? They will probably do the update since people can't wait for the updates.
1.0 update should be best, I agree. They should use that update.
