Personally, strongholds and the hunger system are 2 of my favorite additions to 1.8 and I'm really wondering how 4j intends to impliment strongholds into the limited maps of the 360.
On the PC version, strongholds spawn at least 600 blocks away from spawn and there can be up to 3 strongholds per map. Because the worlds in the 360 version are 862 by 862, the 360 version will most likely not have a spawining limitation. The game will probably make it so every world spawns with a stronghold somewhere in the map.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to dig straight down and find a stronghold or if they will they spawn along the edges of the map.
From playing the PC version I have a few concerns about strongholds on the 360.
1) What happens if a stronghold does generate along the edge of the map? Will there just be a portion of the stronghold you cannot enter because of world boundaries or will the stronghold cut off?
2) Will the strongholds be cramped with the ravines and mineshafts? When mineshafts generate into strongholds, it looks really terrible. My thought is that 4j could fluff the coding so that strongholds are smaller than the PC version, and that mineshafts/ravines will cut off if it would otherwise begin generating in a stronghold.
My fears as well. I seriously hope they at least quadruple the world size. That would help a great deal with the addition of all of these structures. :/
Unless 4J scrap the split-screen multiplayer I don't think we are gonna get any drastic map size changes. I read somewhere that all the chunks are generated at once (something along those lines) and that this limits the size of the maps significantly. That info, no matter how badly worded by myself, is not confirmed though so I may be wrong.
Personally, I don't use split-screen and never will so I couldn't care less if 4J scrapped it. If it means bigger and better worlds, then Im happy with that. I would imagine however, that they have at least thought out a way to stop strongholds from getting screwed up with the current map sizes
They, along with Mojang, are like the Weyland Yutani Corp from Alien..."Building Better Worlds"

More than a week ago, 4JSteve popped into a thread discussing world size and plainly stated that removing the splitscreen would have little or no effect on their ability or inability to increase world size. Since local splitscreen is what makes the XBox version so family friendly, I really wish this mistaken theory would just die already. Just because you personally don't use the splitscreen doesn't mean that there aren't lots of people who do and who bought the 360 version particularly for the ability to play with up to 4 players without being online.
4J also looked into increasing world size several weeks ago and have also already said that there will be no increase in world size for this update. That does not necessarily mean that world size won't be increased later on, just that they could not do it for this particular update. They didn't say why, so anything beyond that is pure speculation.
Since there is not going to be an increase in world size for this update, they must have somehow resolved the various stronghold generation issues to their satisfaction since they are still planning to incorporate them in this update, even without an increase in world size. We may only get 1 per world and it may be smaller... no one really knows that this point. Personally, I don't see much of a point in speculating about it. I'd rather wait until after this update is released now that it's only a few weeks away (at the maximum).

Actually in the world selection the players should be able to choose whether the world will support either splitscreen ONLY (smaller world) or online/Singleplayer ONLY. (larger world)
The biggest and biggest problem for 4j isn't translating code, testing or ideas. Its size. (http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/727636/building-a-better-minecraft-bridging-the-pc-and-console-gap/) Like in this article, They are basically trying to run a 2 year old game, on a 6 year old system. They are trying to squeez in as much of the features of the pc as possible without sacrificing performance. So my guess is they'll try and catch up to pc before even attempting to increase world size.

We'll have to wait and see, trust in the developers they will deliver. Chage the song to something other than world size please, it plays all the time. We'll have to wait and see, trust in the developers they will deliver. I agree w/you OP and I have those same fears as well but as UpUpand Away95 stated "splitscreen is not the cause of limited world size" I was actually on that thread where 4JSteve posted that reply. As for world size being increased 4J said on there twitter feed 2-3 months ago that they are aware of the complaints and will look into an increase in the future however they also stated that they wanted to work on the updates and bug fixes first before they even decide to do a world size increase. I'm a huge huge HUGE supporter of having a world increase and I do think eventually, awhile down the road 4J will start looking into it but it won't be for a long time.
Well if dungeon behavior is any clue, then yes the world edge can cut through a major feature and reduce it's size. I recently found a skeleton dungeon right on the edge of the map and the world edge did significantly cut its size.
Hmm, I hadn't really thought of this exactly, that makes perfect sense. They might just make one or two of them generate in specified locations on any map with the various designs fitting perfectly to make sure there aren't cut offs and stuff.
The reason I worry about map size is with all of the additons, I just worry that stuff will be cut off, or it will just be shoved into the map together and the world will become like a huge carnival with some sort of structure everywhere you look and take away from exploration a little. :/
Judging by the size of the new terrain generation features, if they are kept to scale with the PC version it would turn our worlds into swiss cheese underground. I share the fears with the majority of the users on here and I'm hoping and guessing that 4J took these things into consideration.

I guess thats why there is an xbox 360 edition and a PC edition, you dont like one go to the other. Why worry about it, just play the game, no need for a massive map for a shitty game is there. The game is what you make of it not what they give you, if you cant have fun with a limited palette spend more money for a full palette. Rambrant didnt conplain about his limited palette now did he? And he created some of the most
Wonderful masterpeices the world has seen, he didnt belly ache over "i only have these colours?!, the hell with this im not painting then!".
But i guess thats the idea of minecraft it will never good enough on PC or xbox, it will always be "its good, but it can be better".

Seems like that would work.
