Ok I made one of these things but whats the point can't I just make a normal wire going to my piston whats
the point in the AND logic gate I just don't get it .

The point of an AND gate is that it only outputs a high signal when both inputs receive high signals. There are many uses for this, combo locks for example. I'm a bit rusty on practical redstone devices but I could give you about a million uses for the AND gate when it comes to electronics. I'm about to make a thread, showing how logic gates can be used together, keep an eye out for it.
Meaning it will be in the "on" state. In computer science this represents a 1, and is often referred to as a high signal. The "off" state represents a 0 and is referred to as a low signal.
Ok, say you hook an AND gate's output to a door, and levers control the input. The only time the door will be open is if both levers are on.
AND gates, or any logic gates for that matter, don't have to be powered by a lever. They can be powered by absolutely anything, torch, dust, repeater, whatever.
aaaa... So the most basic use is so 2 inputs have to be active thank you.
One more thing I put a piston at the output and when i turn it of i just flick one lever and it gose of is that right.

Yes, the only time it should be on is when both inputs are on.
Yeah I made a complicated door with 5 levers, 3 of which opened the door, the other two locked the door if either one was flipped on. thinking that was some pretty sweet home security i put my world on public, then somebody just ignored the levers and broke the door.
That was before pistons though so I gotta check out if I can repurpose it to power a piston door.

The AND gate is so that you only get an outputted signal after both inputs have been activated, could also be made into a tri/quad gate by adding more torches to the top woith more inputs
