Its no secret that the timing of pistons is unreliable at best and this seems to happen in both Single and Multiplayer quite often.
Why is this?
One device I made, which is detailed in my Youtube video: , works perfect without any issues. The same can't be said for pretty much every other piston device I use. This could be due to the piston rendering bug, but the timing seems off regardless of its appearance, even when I made sure the repeaters were set to the same tick.
My malfunctioning devices-v
-Dry Dock: My first piston device (Built it the day they came out), and it was just me experimenting with them. However, I had all 9 sticky pistons activate together at 3 ticks, but one was always off. In the lower left corner the piston would activate before the others. After adding a tick to that repeater, it would activate after the others. I never fixed it.
-Zipper Elevator: This took me quite awhile to build, and it rarely ever worked right. It would malfunction and drop me back to the ground 90% of the time. 1/2 of those drops being from a lethal height.. I seemed to get stuck all over the place in the elevator, so eventually I tore it down.
-Item Elevator: Sometimes the pistons timing will be slightly off, even though the top are set to 4 ticks and the bottom to 2 ticks. This can cause items to glitch and become impossible to pick up or be pushed underneath the pistons. It happens infrequently, and the glitch that makes items impossible to pick up has only happened once.
-Cobblestone Generater: At random times the pistons will activate too fast, meaning a block won't be created which jams it. It require a reset after this...
Granted, these aren't the only ones I have problems with, but this is a small list. Note that the top two operate without a clock while the device in the video and the two below use clocks.
