Wow its really nice seeing this many people saying they dont use Facebook, there's alot more of us than I previously thought.
As for the screenshots thing, yeah I think its garbage that we can only upload through FB. Ive never had an account nor will I. Twatter too. But I do agree with alchemilla, its better than nothing, and complaining about time to make a fake account is silly.
Let's approach this FB thing from a less hostile stand-point.
Social networking's a hot buzzword. If you're going to code in to support a social network, you want to do it once, and you want to pick a winner. FB is currently the winner. You sure as heck don't want to code in MySpace support and think you've done a good job.
I can appreciate folks not wanting to use FB, that's fine. But don't be myopic about why everybody else is using it. 52% not using FB might sound like a majority. But consider that a large portion of that is people who don't have internet, which effectively removes them from online existance in the first place. Considering even 101 year old Grandma's have FB, that means you're reaching more people via FB as a common interface than any other tool.
There is always going to be a contrarian demographic who resists whatever everybody else considers popular. that's where things like Linux, Friendster and Android come from. It's fine if you don't want to use FB, but consider that more people use FB than own xboxes. Folks who stay out are effectively left out. That's unfortunate, but we don't have a magical protocol to share social networking across social networking sites (Google+ and FB aren't likely to ever share data). So you gotta pick one.
Even more important to the whole "why can't I save pics to my xbox" problem is even simpler. You were NEVER going to be able to do it.
Until Microsoft changes things (like adding FB support), each game could only access it's own bucket of data. There's no central area to save Screen shots to. Additionally, MS doesn't want you poking at the hard drive or USB storage with a PC. That's why they reformat it to a special format when you stick it in. They presumably think you'll cheat or steal.
That means, the only way MS will approve moving content on/off the xbox is through Xbox Live or a partner, like Facebook. FB is a PHP shop, but they've been using MS's Passport technology for authentication for years. This meant single-sign on has always worked. So there's multiple lines that draw MS to choose FB to connect on xbox live.
Choosing FB also hooks them into making posts and sharing pics. Something that lots of people seem to like using FB for, even if there's better dedicated tools like Instagram.
So, you see, this is the natural path MS took, and how it was pretty much the only way it was going to happen due to limitiations MS built into the Xbox system on purpose.
Personally, I use FB under a fake name, only have real live people I know as friends, don't post anything about work, don't put in any personal info into its fields for such. Thus, you won't find my marital status, employer, or schools I attended. I did that because FB is useful for arranging events with my friends, but I don't need prospective employers googling me up and seeing anything potentially objectionable with me or my friends.
i had a friend come to my world and take screenshots, he then uploaded them to his facebook and sent them to me via email. I know this is a little extra work on your part but it gets the job done and i never touched facebook.

Thanks for that thoughtful, and a tad lengthy , reply. the 48% figure was for people between 18 and 34. Almost all people in that age goup have some means of connecting to the internet. I'm sure that the pecentage of people in this age group, who would like to use facebook, but don't due to financial limmitations, is a fairly small figure. It may bump things down to 50/50 for both groups: People who have some means of connecting and choose to do so, and those who do not. Thank you for that information on the technical workings of the xbox. I'm really not savy at all about that sort of stuff. I can see why they would use Facebook, but that just sorta sucks. I have since created a junk account for screenshots and it is a less than ideal situation for this purpose. A real image hosting site would be vastly superior.
And yet amazingly, while most games don't have any kind of proper ingame screenshot feature at all, you still complain even when 4J make the effort to go that extra mile and give fans and players that option.
I love how you're not willing to spend 5 minutes to create a facebook profile just to upload some screenshots, but then complaining about how you shouldn't have to pay for a decent phone or camera to take pictures of the TV screen, and going on about how this is all xboxs fault.
You got given an answer and a solution, so this thread serves no reason other than a Facebook hate thread. Go take it to another forum.
Also it's ironic you call Wolfuk "Slow", yet its who can't seem to understand the simple concept of either use it or don't.
No it's Wolfuk and youself who can't seem to grab the simple concept that this isn't about hating on Facebook. I have no problem whatsoever with Facebook. Read Wolfuks comment, it's completely asinine and irrelevant. I have a problem with having to start a social networking account with a specific website, to ustilize services and features with unrelated products. Also, you are a schmuck if you bought stock in Facebook. It has nothing to do with how popular it is. Their stocks flopped. Do some research. It is very plausible that Facebook has been trying to gain this exclusive attatchment to other services, to create new growth considering the well known issue that their stocks flopped.
Dude, I never said that I didn't like it. The problem is that I'm being forced to use it. I have nothing against it and I do ralized that it has some value to some people. Just not for me. That may change some day. I will have to create a junk account for some things, and that sort of bothers me. Facebook shouldn't be able to expand as a company by backing people who do not want to use it into a corner.
They're not benefiting from you creating an account. If you don't click on any ads, they're not making money off of you. I'm fine with screenshots being published through Facebook. That's more money that 4J can put into the game instead of image hosting for all of our random pictures.
Besides, it takes what, like 5 minutes to make a Facebook page? I mean, I already had one but that's beside the point.
Oh god lol, you caught me. What the hell did I hit. Missquote? My laptop was dying so I got a little rushy. Anyway, I realize that this was all just whining but this does bother me for whatever reason and I'm not the only one. I do applaud 4j for offering the feature and they probably did it in the cheapest and the easiest way possible. There, you guys won this one. I concede. But as far as the other intrusions that I see Facebook starting to make all over the place, I will continue to be thoroughly annoyed.

I hit quote instead of edit all the time, usually I'm lucky and catch it before I click post though. That's what I was getting at in my other post, I would rather them work out a deal with FB and put more money into the game than have to spend some of their budget on image hosting. I would rather them have worked something out with a pure image host like Photobucket though. But honestly, to me it's not a big deal, I already use both of those sites anyway.

I do not have a facebook account, will probably make a junk account just for my pictures but otherwise the windows phone does a good job.
