So... Im relatively new to minecraft all together. I had played maybe 3 or 4 times in the pc years back. But now ive had mc on the xbox since it came out and i love it. I got both my brothers into it and quite a few of our friends. But i have a complaint/question.
WHY in god's name, is everything so laggy always. I kno my internet connection is good and i kno my friends internet connections are good, so im assuming its mostly the game. But the lag isnt so bad. My friends just have to leave my game and come back every once in awhile and its fixed for a good amount of time.
But the real reason for writing this whole thing is to mention the piston lag. Me and one of my friends have built a pretty large hotel and i love that they added pistons. I use them alot, making light switches which work great for the most part and making doors, etc. but i recently built my first piston elevator. And i cant stand how unreliable they r.
I tried to build the elevator on the side of my hotel going from the first floor to the top floor which is our presidential suite. My first elevator was a zipper elevator. And i wanna say that its close to 35 blocks tall. But when i built it, it worked like 1 out of every 20 tries. So bad. So i tore it down and decided to try a more simple elevator. So i build a spiral elevator or watever theyre called. And again its 35 blocks tall. This one works quite well. So ive kept it, but again, it doesnt work sometimes. Ill get half way up and then one of the pistons will push through me. Why dont the pistons work good wen it comes to things like this? Its just annoying.
Im not trying to say the game sucks because i love it but its so annoying spending alot of time on something, to only find that it doesnt work.
Thank u for reading everybody and sorry for the length and if it seems like im just complaining. And one more thing. Did the pistons do this on the pc version?
Yes there still is issues with lag with multiple players and alot of the game features are buggy. But keep in mind that it will hopefully improve with every update. After all its still in beta form.

I suppose u guys r right. It just gets really frustrating sometimes. Its just a tease to have pistons in the game when u cant use them for anything cool.
I wouldn't go as far as to say they cant be used for anything cool. Because they're are hundreds of cool things that they work perfectly fine for. But instead would say they just don't always work perfectly.

Haha ok ok. I only say that because im still new to the whole piston thing. I dont know to many things to do with them yet.
Keep in mind the things you mention trying are really kind of glitching the pistons anyway. They generally work fine if you're doing "normal" things with them.

I understand that. But that isnt my point. Ive seen videos of MUCH larger scaled piston creations working flawlessly. Obviously on pc but thats wat im saying. Im new to the pistons and the game too really, and seeing videos of these elevators and things working makes me want them but the xbox version cant handle it. And its just frusterating when i could play the pc version and have this stuff work. That i wanna play on pc cause im not a big computer gamer. Back to the point, i kno this isnt the same game as the pc version but i want things to work well. But like someone said. Its is still an unfinished product so hopefully it'll get there
As of now, everything you build with redstone will fail at some point. The bigger the circuit, the more likely it is to fail. When it's an automated or repeating circuit it increases the chance of failure even more, especially if it's a fast system. When you add pistons, that also increases likeliness of a fail.
You can't expect pistons to have absolutely no problems. Pistons were just added in the last update, even on the PC things didn't work perfectly when they were first added. Yes they released a bug fix patch, but I believe that was only to take care of the flickering. If you think this is bad, just wait until we first get redstone lamps.

redstone is pretty much broken. when you try to make something relatively complicated it just doesnt work.
So what? A patch comes out later to fix the redstone update bugs that are common with repeaters and torches. There will always be redstone glitches, there still are on PC, but after said patch redstone will be a lot more reliable. I build extremely complex systems all the time, they work with decent reliability for a couple minutes. You can clear cache and load the game bug-free, but you'll have another glitch within several uses, depending how big the circuit is. My computer took me longer to build than the amount of time I've actually spent using it. I've wrote maybe 4 or 5 programs on it, after that I haven't even touched it again. The fun for me is actually building the huge complicated circuits. After that, I test every feature, and usually never touch it again after the bugs have been worked out.
I'm less forgiving than that. I expect the rules to be reliable. If they're not, I won't feel motivated to put in extraordinary amounts of time and effort to develop a complex machine. I've built plenty of simpler machines, and used more passive approaches to meet other goals. I'd love to invest time into building a lot more than that; but with such poor reliability, I can't be bothered. I eagerly await real fixes to these issues.

Those bolded parts should be considered unacceptable by the developers. it's a feature in the game that doesn't work, when has something being broken in a game ever been acceptable? I've been playing on PC since beta 1.2 and i've never had any problems with redstone circuits like i do on mcx360. Of course there have been small glitches with specific parts of a circuit, each of which were quickly patched, but it's completely different on xbox. On xbox entire circuits become unusable not because of specific glitches like a torch burning out when it shouldn't but because redstone is just off on the xbox, timing or whatever it may be, it just doesn't work. and it's been like that since the game's release. This isn't a little bug, it's a massive problem, like a redstone needs to be completely overhauled or redone problem.

A lot of people seem to have more redstone problems than I do. I get the occasional corrupted block, which admittedly seems to happen more often than on PC. I think one of the main issues does have to do with timing though, Xbox doesn't handle one-tick pulses very well sometimes, it's pretty random when it does or doesn't work. Make sure all your pulse limiting circuits are intended to send a 2-tick pulse and they will send a 1-tick, and occasionally a 2-tick. That will eliminate quite a few problems. Also, are you actually tracing down the problem when there's an error, or instantly chocking it up to a glitch? I mean no offense by this, I myself make errors in building circuits all the time. When I see an error, I run the same operation, if it happens in the same exact fashion it's probably user error. If it's goes back to normal or displays another random error, it's most likely a bug.
I understand most people are different than me and want that instant gratification when they build something. I just build stuff, knowing it's not going to work perfectly, and it might one day. If it doesn't, I honestly don't care, I had fun building it. Actually using my creations reliably doesn't make a difference to me, I doubt I'll even mess with them if redstone does one day have 100% reliability. I do realize it matters to some people though, who's creations are more practical, (to Minecraft itself) in which case it is a pretty severe bug. I'm just expressing my own opinion, not trying to push it onto anyone.

Redstone lamps are glowstone that can be turned on and off with a redstone current.
Thank you.
it lags a lot. Hope they fix this as well.

Retired StaffPretty much this, they can also power redstone when active. I don't think they have transparent qualities like glowstone will though.
