Why are you happy for me? There have been many other statements
of servers like this as mustache guy said, I'm just the one that brought it to
the forums.
It was bought to the forums many times, even as early as May. So you're "one" of the ones that bought it to the forums. Search Battlefield 3 servers in the xbox mc forums and you will get topics started and posts back from, may june july and so on.
Would be great, however i hope they have others items on their priority list first :>
Agreed, but I believe they have different teams working on different things.
like the programmers are working on updates while the 'artists' or whatever you want
to call them, work on skins.
Really!!! I thought because it had craft at the end of its name they were linked together...4J studios and microsoft are making **** loads of money,I'm sure they can do better than 8 measly players....
$ =/= Console capabilities, this is a huge fallacy
$ =/= Console capabilities, this is a huge fallacy
You're saying the xbox can't handle many players when I just mentioned
that it can. Halo has big team battles, which I believe is 8 v 8. And other games
have 16 v 16.
Yes but with halo you can't move EVERY usable block on a single map. Comparing minecraft to ANY fps game has zero logic to it.
I'd rep you up twice if I could for this statement - but the forum system won't allow it.
Here's a little math for the voxel heads -
890X890X126 (number of blocks in the world using round numbers) = 99 million give or take.
Every block has a maximum block id of 256 (implying a 8 bit word) = @200mb database for world block status alone.
Now, I doubt the block status db is fully loaded into memory at one time, but even without spending that much RAM on the db you still have:
All the memory devoted to xBox system processes
Plus all the memory devoted to the server process
Plus all the memory devoted to the client process
Plus all the memory devoted to xBox Live
The whole discussion in the latest interview thread about world size should put this discussion completely to bed. The takeaway point from that interview was really simply - the xBox as a stand alone machine does not have the capacity to run MCPC at full capcaity. The move (if it ever happens) to rentable servers will move the server process off the player's xBox and open up reams of new capacity - possibly addressing world size and player count (and probably redstone bugs too). (Notice the key point here - it's the server process that appears to be the hog) Until such time as rentable servers are available - these issues are off the table because the xBox can't do it.

Clearly these others didn't read the whole interview and just read the parts they thought were cool. "Yay bigger maps" The CEO of 4J states why we dont have bigger maps, which in turn would be why we dont have more players. Thanks Major for saying it here.

One thing I think is important to emphasize - it's not that moving the server process off the local xBox creates more room in the RAM of the xBox - rather it's that moving the server process off the xBox moves the server process onto a for-real computer withgobs more RAM - better processors - bigger busses, etc. People talk about how the xBox can run large multi-player games like Halo or BF3 but they ignore the fact that the vast amount of work happening in those games is not happening locally on their xBox. The biggest portion of the "work" of the game is happening remotely.
DLCs, Hunger game maps, and adventure mode. You can't move/take any blocks.
Said who?
edit: 1 we are miles away from having Adventure mode, if we get it. (not to be mistaken by the adventure update people reading this)
2: You still have to make your adventure map so therefore blocks are placeable/movable and interactive
3:Hunger game maps, where does this come into? Blocks are still as above ^

I'm saying you aren't allowed to move any blocks, and Hunger games maps
are meant for multiplayer.
Yes I realize you arent allowed to move blocks, but thats a rule, doesnt change the fact that they're still all movable etc using up the consoles resources.

only 8. Doesn't make sense to me when they have 16 v 16 servers
on different games.
what you guys look like you're forgetting is that "fortresscraft" and "different games" aren't minecraft.
