Yeah I know, I wasn't actually proposing doing it. That's why I put the "a man can dream" at the bottom hahaha, I see your point though. Only in a perfect world would my wish ever come true.
In a perfect world, no one would grief people, ever... so a list wouldn't be necessary.
You pretty much gave him the exact response he was looking for. Griefers do what they do to **** people off. It's even better for them when they get a reaction out of the victims.
I don't agree with griefing, but I do agree that it's just a game.
Griefing isn't just in video games. Video games just provide it with a new outlet to make people suffer. It's human nature for some to enjoy the suffering of others. So until humans evolve past that, griefing will stay in video games.
I agree. Also, some people just seem to have a warped sense of what they think is funny or fun.
A few days ago, I gave a tour of my city known as Waterstone. Had to of
known a griefer was going to show up, so I turned auto save off. Of course,
the ******* showed, and slaughtered me with an iron sword while my back
was turned. He left and removed me from his friends list. He didn't show
up on recent players either. From there on I had a burning rage inside me.
That type of rage where you are made a fool out of but it's impossible to
reply or get revenge on whatever happened. I soon let it become void
from my mind, and began to relax.
Suddenly, one of my newly made friends made a video showcasing my city.
He was filming the entire time I gave the tour. He posted it on youtube and
I really enjoyed it. While I'm watching the video, I notice that he caught a glimpse
of the griefer. My eyes widened, and I hopped on xbox and sent him a little
message. He replied "lol dude it's just a game". Are you serious? This is what
griefers think? This is what they base their logic on? You have to be kidding.
So I sent him a message. "Ok" I said. "You're building a puzzle in a corner of the
room. You're 80% done with it, you're so excited, and then you see me walk over
to you. I kick down the puzzle and light it on fire. Does that make sense? No, it
really ****ing doesn't". So I think I proved my point.
I just truly think the entire concept of griefing should be completely destroyed.
It's mindless and idiotic. It serves no purpose but to infuriate people.
And I apologize about the whole ranting thing. I don't usually make threads
like this. Feel free to add your opinions or stories of griefers as well. And I
welcome people to flame me, I'd be happy to report you immediately
I believe many people have thought like you. For any intelligent person like you and I,
along with a lot of others that frequently use this website, this is the ONLY reason to grief.
What goes around comes around, even if you have to destroy a thing or two to knock some
sense into him.
I disagree. I don't think revenge griefing knocks sense into anyone. It just eventually escalates things into a war.
Some people just think that "it's just a game" means they can behave any way they please without any consideration to other players. "Dude, it's just a game!" --Therefore, who really cares or what does it really matter that I just poured lava all over something that took you hours or days to complete. "It's just a game, bro."----Therefore, what does it really matter that I stalked you at the spawn point and killed you over, and over, and over again while our team was playing zombies.
I really hate that way of thinking. Yes, it is just a game....a game where people put a considerable amount of time, effort and talent into playing it. It's like that kid in kindergarten that just loved kicking down your block houses, their enjoyment came primarily from watching the pieces fall and the builder become upset. It's a lack of consideration, plain and simple.
I keep autosave off, I do it because I want a little more control over what I'm doing. This comes into play when I'm trying to plan something out that might have worked on paper but isn't in practice. I can exit and go back to an acceptable point without worry. It's also saved me from a griefer who felt it necessary to blow several holes in a build that was my sky ring, causing lava to flow out all over my desert. I'm paranoid so left what I was doing in another part of the world to check on what these two guys were doing. One was busily building his house, the other was derping around. When I saw what had happened I just exited, left negative reviews on XBLA for the one who I know did and left it at that. I wasn't overly pissed, annoyed yes, because I wasn't out much.
Now, if that had happened on my main world I would be fire breathing mad. It's the world I started with my kids and I've poured a ton of effort into it so that my little girls have a fun world to run around in and (once I get to work on the PVP arena) my son can play with his friends. If someone griefed there, let's just say I would go outta my way to let them feel my ire. (It's also the reason I'm extra careful who I let in to see it.)
I am a Minecraft tourist. I am currently unavailable under the XBoxLIVE ID listed here but can be found under ZombieL0C0. If you see me online playing Minecraft, send a message and I will gladly take a stroll through your world.

I agree. It takes time and effort to learn how exactly to play a game so that everyone in the game has genuine fun... and that, afterall is the entire point of playing a game to start with. So kids, and even many adults, just haven't learned how to do that, so they go around thinking that the only way for them to have fun is to poke fun at someone else and cause them pain. I think griefing is really just another form of bullying.
I think theres different types of griefing. I admit, I have griefed one time. My sister and I joined some dudes town build, shortly after, she began to build a house. Meanwhile, I (crouched, not showing on maps), dug tunnels under every building, stealing gunpowder when I could. Then a few days in, I began to wire multiple blocks of TNT under every house until the entire town sat above a decent amount of explosive. I then wired the redstone to a lever in the center of the town with a side that read : DO NOT PULL! Then I just let curiousity run it's course and BOOM. It was really fun I felt like a terrorist and everyone freaked out and it made for a good laugh. I just like the whole strategy part, griefing where you just run amok doing stupid **** is kind of annoying.

Not if you block communications. And if they actually feel like what it feels
like to be griefed, chances are they would stop being assholes and not do it anymore.
But hey, that's only if they're smart. And many griefers lack intelligence.

Umm not really? You look to far into stuff that can easily be left behind, I removed him I never will see him it does not create war unless you allow that war to continue.

Haha, so fun. I do that to my friends all the time. I always either save, or get them to save right before I detonate it though. The stealthy part and strategy to not getting caught is what makes it worthwhile. Don't let these little kids call you a **** though, they go on about how it's their game and they can play it how they want, just rebuttal with the same argument. As long as no real harm is caused I don't see the problem.

I notice that neither one of you have actually attributed the end of the griefing to the revenge griefing you did. You actually acknowledge that what ended the griefing and stopped a "war" from escalating was the other step you took - cutting off communications with the griefer. I agree with cutting communications with a griefer because that IS what is effective; however, that can be done without first lowering yourself to their level by griefing them as a form of revenge before cutting communications.

So, by "freaking out" - do you think the dudes in that world were expressing how much fun they were having? You obviously had your fun at their expense... makes you a bit of a sadist, doesn't it?
I feel for you dude I really do. I had an attempted grief once when a buddy and I were starting out on his first day of minecraft. he had friends of friends enabled and 3 dudes just all of a sudden pop in. They destroyed our beds and we immediatly slaughtered them with iron swords lol. worst grief attempt ever. now as a ritual whenever my buddy and I save to get offline for the day we grief ourselves and each others structures. It's really the only acceptable griefing in my opinion. Like a lot of people here say: at the end of the day it's still just a game. I know it sucks but you just have to do the best you can to avoid it.
Making topics like this just fuels the griefers and really gives them what they are looking for. They want this reaction and all this does is encourage it. As proof I have noticed (while handing out some rep and being observant me) that your very griefer of the same name in your video has been in this topic giving rep to a number of people who said "it's just a game." Pretty bold in my opinion but it just goes to show you are giving him or her what they are looking for. it's like a serial killer coming back to the scene of the crime.

I tried to sign my name here, but all I managed to do was ruin my computer screen.
Griefers to me are simple, they are children. At this point they could care less what you think. To us its more than a game, it is something to be proud of but to a confused child, its just something to **** with people and get away with a clean slate.
The way I see it, the more we talk about it the more they are going to enjoy it, even this post is egging them on as I type it but I could care less. Drop the griefer worries and ignore the **** out of them. Who cares who and what they do.
Common sense should be prevalent when dealing with children but its obvious it is not. You turn on invite only and no friends of friends and problem solved for the moment.
4J can not do everything, griefers probably do not register on their radar for now. It is up to the community as a whole to ignore and move past the retarded fools who think griefing is a good idea. It is the same as being a thief in real life and should be thought of the same in minecraft.
Now back to your regular programming...rant done.
