I to gotta go with Gish..... No release date or relevant info at all. The Minecraft community as a whole is very good!!!!! The Xbox side not so much...... JMHO

A programming language is a programming langue, be it BASIC, PASCAL, C++ etc. I have written games programs but that was like 30 years ago using BASIC, nothing fancy , but I fully understand the principles. My washing cars book was something that is called an analogy.
Oh I am aware it was an analogy I was just calling it a poorly constructed one. I just get the feeling that you are trying to make 4J's task seem much simpler than it actually is. "a programming language is a programming language" that's kind of like saying German and French are exactly the same thing. I mean sure the fundamentals are the same but it's still a different language right. not every language acts exactly the same way with the procedures you put into it there is always going to be a bit of tweaking to avoid creating more bugs. comparing BASIC on a 30 year old game to minecraft is like compareing apples and oranges. Sure graphically Minecraft looks pretty retro but behind that there is a heck of a lot going on. They also have to dissect a different team's programming guided by comments left in the program. personally I find it easier to write a program from scratch then to conform to another programmers's style. plus it's a new platform where there is no keyboard and mouse only a controller. There are lots of things at play here and it's not quite fair to be telling 4j to hurry up when you don't know the full extent of what they are dealing with. I mean sure they hinted toward enchanting but they also told us straight up that this would be the hardest update for them to implement because of creative mode. you are focussing on the possibility that was given and forgetting about the reality that was given. the best thing we can all do is be patient it hasn't been that long. I'm eager for the new update along with everyone else but getting upset about it isn't going to help in any way. The way I see your analogy it should be something more like this: I give you my manual of how to wash cars in english and you have to then write a novel based on it, and then translate it into a screenplay in french. we should all be asking about things we do know are in the update. Instead a great deal of us ask "where's the update? why isn't it here yet? why isn't blank going to be in this update?" if they gave answers to those questions half of us wouldn't listen, the other half wouldn't understand and 4J would be wasting time they could have put toward working.

I tried to sign my name here, but all I managed to do was ruin my computer screen.
You need to re-read my original post where I said that another poster had to translate my book into Latin. I was not the one going on at 4J, I fully understand the complexities at hand.
lol sorry I think I am getting aggrivated by having to sift through various complain at 4J posts while I'm trying to gain information. there are a lot of them all over the forums.
I'm also passionate about proper respect to programmers that work hard. 4j appears to do just that. there are a lot of larger game companies out there that churn out inferior products just to get our money faster but I won't get started on that.
and the other reason for my rant is I guess I really didn't like your analogy. I hate washing the car and the idea of reading a 900 page book about it in Latin... I think you struck a nerve. please forgive

Jesus is here sometimes.... He likes to post. You're forgiven just for asking No apologies needed for a somewhat inteligent argument. It's refreshing to read thought being put into a debate. That's rare around here.

go to pe and pc forums. same as xbox forum people complain a lot
Right First, The pocket edition lauched on version alpha and MCXBLA in beta.
I'm happy whit the game, and the next update is 1.8 and next 1.2.3
The 1.7.3 Update it have a relase date weeks previously
The 1.8 Update is cool but need hurry a relase date
if i were 4j i should abandon minecraft (xbox) and let this little kids cry
And If i were you id shut the heck up i dont know how old you are but im 13 and i play minecraft xbla all the time and i think someones gonna beat the heck outa u sometime
God Damn! I have never seen a bigger bunch of whiny little bitches. Stop complaining and think about it. If they would have held off till everything was integrated and up to date this game would NEVER release and if it did it would have to be recoded yet again so we could play it on the XBOX720. If you want the experience of 1.2, 1.3 or whatever the **** it is GO BUILD A PC THAT WILL PLAY IT or should I say go ask your mommy and daddy to give you the money to build one or run down to Best Buy and buy a new HP. When the alpha came out I was playing it on my current pc and now that it is further along with large Biomes and all the additions I can no longer play it on my pc without upgrading it which may I add I have the parts on order and will be here on Thursday. Should I ***** that Mojang didnt keep with the current specs of the game or should I say I dont know maybe thank you for upgrading this game for FREE instead of ass raping us everytime a new feature came out like all the big studios do? Stop your bitching or stop playing the game. simple as that.
I'm confused. I read this article yesterday... but now some of that info is clearly wrong (enchanting) and some of it... well just read:
Where did this info come from? I don't remember this being confirmed...
The article cites OXM UK as its source and there is a link at the bottom of the page. The OXM page that link goes to does not confirm what is said in the article. There are links inside the OXM page that take a person back to earlier OXM articles that say all that stuff is coming in "future updates." Therefore, the article you read has apparently misintepreted what OXM wrote - it happens and is one reason why a person can't believe everything they read in the press.
it didn't come out a month ago it came out a couple weeks ago TROLL
The article came out september 5th. Lol no where close to a month ago. If you think 5 days is a month you need to work on your math my man!!!!
You may want to check your link again, the one I just clicked on had the date August 13 on it, and I'm pretty sure being 3 days away from a full month from it, constitutes it be called a month.
I understand more than most about what it takes to take the java code and the recreate it in C++. Its not a copy and paste but the original java code is far from useless and is constantly being used for comparison. Most of programmers are versed in several different programing languages(of course more experienced in some than others) and if they can only read, use and write in one language I doubt they would have a job at 4J a company known for porting games.
I'm glad someone said this, I'd read the entire thread disappointed how the majority of our community believes 4J has such a monumental task on their hands, they don't. Time consuming on the other hand, yes, but that's still only measured by the developers ability.
4J does in fact have to rewrite almost the entirety of the games code, but they are in no way going into the development of this game blind. All features that will ever be available in this game have already been laid out on a table for them, so there's no creative juices to clog the development process, they have access to every note, stat, texture, and model ever logged by Notch, Jeb, and Dinnerbone about this game, so there is no guess work in every single line of code working in every exact way as its Java counterpart. Finally, Java isn't known for it's complexity, if a person has been educated in any form of advanced programming, which in this case is in game development, one would know that Java is a language that is little more than an after thought, it's more of a language you pick up as a hobby. Not saying Java isn't useful, it's just not the rocket science of programming languages.
Nothing against 4J, I've said it before that I have nothing but respect for them and this project, this game has the weight of a passionate community that trumps almost every other in size alone, they were crazy to even touch this game and I admire that about them. They have a lot on their hands with Minecraft XLBA I won't deny that, but not nearly has much as most of this community imagines. They have every aspect of the game laid out on a silver platter being spoon fed to them all they have to do is mimic it, which is the very first thing you're taught to do when entering the games development industry, that's year 1 for students. A lot of work, yes, not as much as most believe though.

Yes, all of those will be in the next update. You can count on it.
