I am very disappointed by this news and almost not looking forward to the update but instead dreading how long it will be until the update 1.2.3. I was hoping the delay was because they were adding more than planned to the game(not lame tutorial crap), now I see its less. If they dont increase the world size in this update it will be a fail. They made a huge mistake by mentioning bringing features forward then not doing it. They still havent talked about breeding there is a slight hope there. If they didnt move to anvil then this being the biggest update is a slight exaggeration.
they have brought features forward, but they were technical features like lighting changes. And this being the biggest update is far from an exaggeration, you clearly dont understand what they have to do..
Yes and they would have gotten alot less grief from that on these forums and many more around the world. I believe it to have been a bad idea to release it unfinished on xbox. Many game devs would agree do you see others releasing a game in beta form for all to see, no. I already know of dozens of people who played this version and immediately hated or disliked it and will now never play it again and never know the joy of what it could have and will be. The same reason other companies dont let everyone play betas, because its not a full representation of the final product and subject to criticism.
WHY DONT PEOPLE LIKE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THE GAME IS FINISHED? And assuming you're not using some ridiculous hyperbole, those "dozens" of people are all ignorant if they refuse to play a game again after being updated because they played it once and didnt like it. Lastly, in case you havent noticed, even IF this was a beta, it is completely in minecraft's style to let everyone have access to the game while it's still in beta. did you forget that everyone had access to the PC version even while it was still in alpha? I mean really, if you're going to compare it to PC like this, don't leave parts out. If anything it would make MORE sense for us to be able to play it now than when it's what you consider finished.
You dont fully get my point here. Its not that it doesnt match the PC 1 for 1 on features at ever second but that its on a closed system that for the most part when a game is released its finished and represents the product they are selling you. This game was released in a beta pre version 1.0(where pc minecraft was stated to be final but not finished) with promises to be complete one day.
Of course there is more work involved there. Re-wrtten but still copied just not as easy as copy and paste and not as hard as creating it from scratch.
You don't fully get your own point, and i'm starting to get irritated by these extreme levels of ignorance so apologies in advance if i throw random insults. I bolded the parts of your argument that have the opposite effect of what you intended. Sure, when games are released on a closed system, like xbox, for the most part the game is representing what's being sold. Well Minecraft isn't exactly the same as most games, is it? Minecraft on all systems operates the same, but differently from most games. All 3 of them, except xbox were released in alpha and gave everyone who gave a damn access to the game in it's earliest stages while the game was updated by it's developers.
Now you're correct, pc minecraft was stated to be final, but not finished as of 1.0, but xbox wasn't. In fact, it's been stated by 4j that the xbox edition was released as a full game that was equivalent to the pc's beta 1.6.6.
You also don't seem to understand what 4j is doing. they're not just rewriting code, and a lot of people don't seem to be able to differentiate between these two or don't understand what making the game from scratch actually means. They don't have any code to rewrite, they didn't have anything to begin with except what they need to emulate. The code PC minecraft is written in is completely useless to them, so they started writing code from scratch to create what we play now, a near exact replica of the original game. Someone made an analogy about writing a long book and having to rewrite it in a different language, but that's wrong, that would imply 4j is able to use the code minecraft was already written in (or the original words written in the book). A better analogy would be to have to write a new book and make it exactly like the orginial, word for word, BUT they can't actually read it, All they know is the language they have to write it in, and what the book is about.

Was about to say where did it state there will be no xp bar till i saw this. Seems like a good move, remove something that isn't needed that can also potentially speed up the update.
Wow, Some of you are acting like it is the end of the world that you aren't getting your update as fast as you want or not how you want. Unless you are terminally ill or have to midnight on a certain night and your xbox turns back into a pumpkin, why don't you all just chill.
Hopefully each and everyone of you knew what you were getting into when you bought the game for the 360, if not you should do some homework on what you are getting ready to buy before you buy it.
If you knew this game will continue to get undated until it "has caught up to the PC version or beyond" why did you buy the game already and not just wait. Oh wait, that's right, I am speaking to many impatient spoiled rotten kids.
World size will probably not increase anytime soon, because of the limitations of the XBOX.
That is not factual there is no limitation from a technical standpoint as to the Xbox not being able to handle a larger world size. It was a design decision only. I'm not saying that it can have the exact same size world as the PC only the current size is not the limit.
they have brought features forward, but they were technical features like lighting changes. And this being the biggest update is far from an exaggeration, you clearly dont understand what they have to do..
Yes the biggest update to come to date but looking at what else is schedualed its wont be the largest overall. Like I stated if it doesnt have anvil its not the biggest to come 1.2.3 will be.

If the game is finished then what are these game changing updates on the horizon. And yes those people who choose to never play the game again are ignorant. I only stated that to prove a point as to why the way they have released the game was a bad choice. I'm just calling it what it is a beta no matter whos style it is.

You make no point here only reaffirm mine. You only highlighted irrelevant info as to what confused you of which you could cut from my statement entirely and not change the meaning of my statement.

I understand more than most about what it takes to take the java code and the recreate it in C++. Its not a copy and paste but the original java code is far from useless and is constantly being used for comparison. Most of programmers are versed in several different programing languages(of course more experienced in some than others) and if they can only read, use and write in one language I doubt they would have a job at 4J a company known for porting games.
I am not saying 4J is not doing a good job creating Minecraft for the XBOX only that they made some questionable choices in how they're going about it. Also I have never stated that its not worth the money we paid for it, I would and will probably pay more for it. Its just becoming harder to play now since I know it will be a far better game in the future. I just dont want to get bored and burnt out on it before I got to experience the full game. Most of us did not know its limitations and inferiority to the PC version prior to its release and purchase. Most of my comments have been to this unimportant fact that could have been avoided in several ways that never happened. Also its not the end of the world and I'm not angry about it at all, my long winded comments are not a sign of emotion but of thoughts in the form of words. My comments are my opinion and pretty factual even if you dont agree.
I'm not moaning you piece of cr#p....what i'm saying is that they removed xp bar, why remove it?? i was making a mob grinder and all that!
Piece of Crap wtf?? Yes I know you said they removed it so what? You cant do anything with it until enchanting comes..Its not stopping you from making and/or finishing your mob grinder..
I did not read this thread..... Unless someone can post a link to the release date, everything else is useless IMO. Of coarse they are still working on it, why wouldn't they be???? This is the biggest update in MC. give them time to get it right!!!!!!!! All speculation was September anyway. More likely a holiday season October/November/December...... I can wait. Personally I'd rather discus a build not speculate on unknowns......
That sucks, why didn't they just make it the same version as the PC it would be so much easier.
Your post isn't exactly clear on what you mean, so I will answer it based on varying interpretations. If you are asking why they didn't just release the game at whatever the current PC version is, we would never get the game because they will never be right on par.
If you are asking why they didn't release it as a later build, that is because 1.6.6 was the most stable version when they started working on the game, and if they waited, we still wouldn't have the game.
If you are referring to the fact we aren't getting enchanting and XP bar, the PC version didn't have enchanting for 1.8.2, so we are actually equal with them in this case. They didn't bother adding the XP bar because it is useless without enchanting, and is just something that would take up HUD space.
I was looking forward to XP and Enchanting the most. sad face. I don't care if we don't have enchanting. Let me have my XP bar just for the hell of it. I have a skeleton and zombie spawner trap that will instantly level up my guy to the max. I think if they gave us the XP bar now, they don't have to worry about it later.

xp bar is useless on 1.8. it doesnt give you anything.
Why would you want this pinned, theres a perfectly fine pinned topic about 4j Twitter feeds...From the most of this topic all I can see is arguments over not having enchanting or xp
I am getting the distinct impression that most of the people complaining in this topic have never programmed anything in their lives. You don't just think enchanting and it magically appears in the game. The ones arguing that it should be implemented faster because it is already written clearly know nothing. They have to take what is written and move it to another programming language. Sometimes that is more difficult than writing a program from scratch. Taking a game like minecraft and re-writing it in a different programming language is absolutely nothing like taking a 900 page book on washing cars and translating it to another language. If you have never written a computer program in your life (and no doing a crappy webpage doesn't count) then you have no idea what it takes to make a game and have no right to complain. the dudes at 4j are doing what they can and to be hones't I'm surprised we got 1.7.3 as fast as we did especially since it has to go through cert with Microsoft. Instead of complaining why don't you play the game and invent something cool with redstone or build on one of the chunks you likely havn't touched. I've said my peace. now you can all flame me and tell lies about how you've programmed before so you can justify your whining.

I tried to sign my name here, but all I managed to do was ruin my computer screen.
In a nutshell; the whole backlash over the enchanting issue is that 4J basically said that there was a chance that it could have been brought forward. They were looking into it. It didn't happen and some people were disappointed. Simple.
I think that in the future, 4J should probably refrain from "speculating" on what they're thinking about bringing forward. They'll certainly save themselves a lot of heat.

Naw, because then you'd have a bunch of people (probably the exact same people) complaining that "4J is a terribad company because they never give us any information on what's going on." Basically, 4J is boffed no matter what they do.
I think 4J just needs to ignore the complaining - the adults in the room will post intelligent comments and the compainers will complain no matter what happens.
I'm confused. I read this article yesterday... but now some of that info is clearly wrong (enchanting) and some of it... well just read:
Additionally, golems and animal husbandry will be added in 1.8.2. NPC villages will begin to show up, and players will also be able to start enchanting items. Hunger, meaning you'll have to continually eat to survive, will also be included, but with the ability to discover new strongholds and hidden temples (rife with new special gear), the added difficulty may be worth it.
Where did this info come from? I don't remember this being confirmed...

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Hmmm. Considering that it's coming from OXM, you'd think it would be credible. But at the same time, I'm wondering if they're out of the loop as far as their update information is concerned. Maybe they're one step behind.
