Got to agree, particularly with your parts in bold. Apart from creative mode (meh), a few new blocks, some tweaks to the mechanics and duff enderman, I am actually left wondering, what will this update contain? It sure doesn't sound like it's going to be much of an "adventure" anymore!
The whole mentioning enchanting thing and then not doing it has, as you say, just gotten people's hopes up and then ultimately led to disappointment; in fact I'd go as far to say it's quite a sloppy and cheeky thing to do as a business.
There's more to it than just copy and paste. It's being re-written in another programming language.
I guess I kind of sensed it happening, as last night I gave in and bought it on PC :/
Apparently they started work it at version 1.6 when 1.6 was released for PC, and it's taken that long for it to be done and then for the updates we are getting. Unless 4J employs more staff it looks like we'll be perpetually behind the PC version. I personally take the view that if it takes this long, they probably need more staff.
I try not to criticize too much when I don't know every detail, but as a laymen it is not hard to realise why people seem to feel perpetually disappointed about the Xbox version. All us "laymen" see is an unfinished beta released at cost price (that alone pisses me off), and then updated seemingly willy nilly. Personally, I think it's downright cheeky to release a beta to the public at cost price, not even be that vocal about the fact that it's unfinished and still buggy, and then push updates out at a leasurely pace. It's just sloppy.
I work in IT so I know what it's like for laymen to attempt to tell me what my job is, but at the end of the day those laymen are the customers, and we are customers too. And right now, as a customer of this product, I'm not the most thrilled...
So, the original first release at version 1.6.6 was May 9th followed by a bug fix on June 15th, then the 1.7.3. update on July 13th (which added pistons), then a bug fix on August 7th. It's now September 5th? Seems to me something has been improved on the game almost every month (even if it was just a bug fix), not to mention the release of skin packs.
Has it been perfect? Of course not. There have been a few glitches along the way - some of which are legacy bugs in the original game and some were new ones created by the changeover. So, this time 4J as taken a little extra time to try to get an update out without creating new bugs. Why not wait and see what they produce and how it functions before whining about not getting a function that was in the PC game that wasn't really functional until the update after that?
First off beta in no way represent something brand new just something in a considered not final form and in no way is used to test how the market will receive it. And I agree that its hard to release something as final when a game like minecraft seems to never be done. But it was considered to be beta in all versions prior to 1.0 hence the renaming and numbering of releases. And releasing any version prior to 1.0 is by definition releasing a BETA.
So, Minecraft PC is still a beta and will always be a beta? It's not ever going to be in a "final form" until it's considered to be totally obsolete. Would you have preferred if they released Minecraft XBox Edition as 1.6.6 with the express declaration that they were never intending to update it?

I do applaud your enthusiasm to enter this debate UpUp_Away95 but dont believe your input is adding much nor that you are understanding others basic points.

No its no longer a beta have you read my posts. And yes if that were the case. But instead my point is reread and comprehend.
if i were 4j i should abandon minecraft (xbox) and let this little kids cry
Yes if you were 4J you would walk away from millions of dollars in future revenue from DLC etc and harm future ventures with a bad rep. Thats why you arent anybody. People like you are worst than the wining kids because you are just trying to get a reaction without adding anything inciteful or interesting. Just throwing fuel in a fire to see it burn. Atleast when I do it, its in an intelligent thought provoking way. And yes I'm a whining grown ass man.

future revenue from dlc? most people here complain for 160msp skins.
If you were 4j, and you started to make a minecraft for X360 starting at when minecraft was at beta 1.6, would you...
A:Continue to make it and update along.
B:Wait until the full release came out.
Personally, I would go with A, because when your waiting for something, you get excited or impatient.
I believe between the two skin packs they easily sold 2 million. I think I read that the first had sold 1 million not sure where nor do I want to find it to satisfy your curiosity. And it doesnt even matter if they only sold a forth of that it would have been over a million in revenue not to mention all that will be coming later.
I have to say, while I am disappointed enchanting isn't coming early, I am not going to whine about it. It was one of those things where it would have been nice to see, but it wasn't something people should have been expecting.
I wish everybody would put this into perspective. Can anyone name any XBLA or XBOX360 game that has been released, that has had a major update within two months of release which included 2 bug fixes.
To be fair, most games don't require a bug fix for their title updates. In that case, I would consider less is more.
Yes and they would have gotten alot less grief from that on these forums and many more around the world. I believe it to have been a bad idea to release it unfinished on xbox. Many game devs would agree do you see others releasing a game in beta form for all to see, no. I already know of dozens of people who played this version and immediately hated or disliked it and will now never play it again and never know the joy of what it could have and will be. The same reason other companies dont let everyone play betas, because its not a full representation of the final product and subject to criticism.
The reason they start at 1.6.6 is because that was the most stable version at the time they were contracted to port the game. If they waited to release it until they were at a further version, then we still wouldn't have the game. The amount of people complaining about that would be a large and vocal crowd. And this isn't a beta. It is the official release of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. It is just the beta equivalent of the PC version at this time.
They complained but that doesnt mean they didnt sell 2 million of them does it, do the math.
I highly doubt they sold 2 million. Maybe 1/10th of that. And most of that most(if not all) will just be reinvested back into the company and pay for the title update fees that they will soon be paying for.
I do applaud your enthusiasm to enter this debate UpUp_Away95 but dont believe your input is adding much nor that you are understanding others basic points.
No its no longer a beta have you read my posts. And yes if that were the case. But instead my point is reread and comprehend.
It seems to me you're pissed off because you bought a copy of a "beta" and you're hung up on the word rather than the principal of the thing. You've said it yourself that a "beta" is something not considered to be in it's final form... so I'll ask you directly, IS Minecraft PC even now that it's no longer called a "beta" considered to be in it's final form. Of course not. I think Notch has several more ideas brewing in his head yet.
Whether or not something is termed a "beta" is a judgment call by the developers. It primarily serves a corporate purpose. The consumers get what they get either way.
You bought XBox version 1.6.6 (or termed version beta 1.6.6) with the promise of free future updates to eventually catch it up to the PC version that was released at that time... and you should have known that's what you were getting. You also knew the price before you bought it. IF you didn't, you just didn't read the info available. You also had an opportunity to know ahead of time roughly how the game worked and whether or not it might interest you before you purchased it. You should also know that the control differences between an XBox and a PC create different issues that make a "direct port" not really possible. You've benefited from a vastly improved crafting interface as a result... and you may benefit from a better creative mode interface (we'll just have to see what actually comes out).
You can whine about it being termed a "beta" all day long, but I've certainly have to say that I've gotten $20 worth a play value from it already... and I can probably count on a few more free updates before it's all said and done. Personally, I don't care whether they developers call it an "alpha," a "beta" or a "theta" - I like what I bought for the price I paid for it.
If there was not another single update, I would say I have more than gotten my moneys worth out of this title. I've logged more hours into this game than any other in my library. Updates are just a bonus at this point.
I agree with UpUp and Scrote, with the exception of certain redstone and piston issues, there is nothing in this game than can be considered broken or non-functioning.
I bought the game as a download code from GameStop as an impulse buy. We were in the store looking for something for my son, I saw it on the self and knew that many people on my friends list showed up as playing it, so I said "what the hey?" This game has easily become my most played game, it has more than delivered $20 worth of enjoyment.
The folks on this forum arguing that the game would have never been released had 4J waited for a "stable build" are off when they say it "would have never been released;" but, they are correct in sentiment. This is MCXBLA and not MCportofMCPCforthoseofyouwhoaretoocheaptorunMCPC. MCXBLA was a stable biuld when they released it and they have be adding content - standard business practice nowadays.
At this point, I'm almost hoping they hold off on the update. First, the sadistic part of me would enjoy watching all the whiners on this forum go into collective cardiac arrest. Second, I've got a couple of things I want to finish before creative comes out so they are on recording as having been done without it (mostly so i can rub it in the face of all the "anti-creative-mode" whiners.
I just wanted to point out 2 things here! I didnt go back and read all 30+ post so if its been mentioned, my apologies!
First, porting it over to xbox is alot MORE difficult than everyone is thinking! I know this basic idea has been mentioned, but some one basically said it wasnt as hard as creating your own game which is false! Creating your own game is much easier because your making it to YOUR liking! To your expectations! In this example you only need to know 1 programming language! You just think of an idea and attempt to program it in! 4j on the other hand is taking someones elses game looking at their code and translating it! Sounds easier dont it? NOT! Lets say the command in Java to make a character to jump is JMP and it only needs vertical speed and horizontal speed as parameters! Now for C+ it could be Jmp1 and needs direction, speed vertically, speed horizontally, pull of gravity! Its alot more than just reading the command in one langauge and just plugging in the command from the other! There are rules and guidelines that are different to each! And now i get to the part of languages! Mojang only needs to know 1 programming language to create it! 4J needs to know 2! and its more than likely that every programmer they have is only proficient in 1 language! So they probably have to have 1 person reading the code and describing it. And the pther attempting to write it in C! Then after they finally get it right they have to tweak it so it produces the desired affect! So when someone tells you it will take a while, they are either lieing or just dont know, its alot longer than a while!
Now my second point! 4J has never stated that they will catch up with pc! They have never stated that they will go as far as the pc version! They have never stated what will be included in the xbox version! What they did state that this IS the xbox version, AND they will pick and choose everything to be included because of the limitations of the 360! Basically the 360 couldnt handle a full port of the latest pc version! Eventually there will be a stopping point long before the pc version is done! Mainly because the cost will be too high and they will start to lose money! Because no new gamers are purchasing it! So there is a timeframe here! I would guess no longer than 2 years and thats pushing it! Pc version has been in development since what 08? And will be going on longer than that!
Ok so i lied i have a 3rd point! Why are console gamers so fricken bitchy? I play both pc and console games, but i have YET to buy minecraft for pc! I didnt hear about it till i saw it on 360! I go on these bouts where i am mostly on one or the other, never both! So i didnt hear about it till late and my pc isnt plugged up right now and at one point wasnt working for a while! But anyways, console gamers are whinny! They expect EVERYTHING to work right outside of the box! They expect to have everything handed to them on a silver platter! GET OVER IT! LEARN TO BE PATIENT! Moaning and groaning about it wont speed things up! Bitching about it wont change a thing! If your that over constipated over a game then you really need to invest in some KY! I have only been around 2 months and allready this **** is getting old!
At this point, I'm almost hoping they hold off on the update. First, the sadistic part of me would enjoy watching all the whiners on this forum go into collective cardiac arrest.

Wow they're taking all this time, and not even giving us XP bar or enchanting?
Wow 4j.. just wow. Carry on taking your time with the update. I don't play Minecraft any more. I play Happy wars
APOLOGIES TO THE MODS - this list is different from what you can read on the wiki in that I have editted it to reflect the bring forward of the new lighting model in MCXBLA 1.1 (1.7.3). I have also removed things related to server/SMP management on the PC.

No, they are giving us:
