Weeks after we reported that Minecraft Xbox 360's 1.8.2 patch was "weeks" away, 4J has Tweeted that there are still, in fact, weeks to go. Awww.
It's not all bad news, however. If we're reading the hints correctly, studio technology boss Paddy Burns recently managed to persuade Epic's Cliff Bleszinski to dress up as a Creeper. There's a picture. Certainly makes a change from that one of him holding the Lancer, doesn't it? "We're still working on 1.8.2," reads the Tweetin full. "A few things left to add, more work on the Creative Mode interface, then lots of test. Still weeks away..."
I am very disappointed by this news and almost not looking forward to the update but instead dreading how long it will be until the update 1.2.3. I was hoping the delay was because they were adding more than planned to the game(not lame tutorial crap), now I see its less. If they dont increase the world size in this update it will be a fail. They made a huge mistake by mentioning bringing features forward then not doing it. They still havent talked about breeding there is a slight hope there. If they didnt move to anvil then this being the biggest update is a slight exaggeration.
This next update wasnt even meant to have enchanting, why are you moaning, and having an xp bar with no enchanting is pointless
But they did tweet at one point that they were looking into bringing enchanting forward for this release. That news alone was enough to make some of us hopeful about it coming.
Personally, I'm disappointed. The one aspect that I'm really looking forward to and it's not coming in this patch and probably won't for quite some time. Talk about a lunchbag letdown.
If they are struggling this much with these features i dread to think what stumbling blocks they are going to hit when it comes to adding strongholds and npc's
It'a not an easy task, you know.

Notice the words looking into, it says looking into, not going to. That never meant it was for certain.

No kidding, Captain Obvious. I guess you missed the part where I said that it made some of us "hopeful" that it would. Just because you're happy about it doesn't mean we all have to be.

Just because they left there comment open to not doing it doesnt mean it hurts any less when they dont do it. The smarter idea would have been to not mention it at all unless you were actually doing it.
I wish everybody would put this into perspective. Can anyone name any XBLA or XBOX360 game that has been released, that has had a major update within two months of release which included 2 bug fixes.
There is little point in bemoaning the Xbox edition for the lack of options it has compared to it's very distance PC cousin , twice removed on it's fathers side, and even then it's not really related as it's a different programming language, different team etc. etc.
The incarnation of Minecraft on the Xbox, is by it's title, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition.
Also on the same note can you name one that promised additional updates and features to entice sales. In my opinion they should not have released this game until they were as planned up to version 1.2.3. They did that so we would buy the game and not call it a lame knock off of the PC version and would have sold alot less. To call it a distant cousin is incorrect more like a son that one day could be near identically to the father but is young and still growing but because of its mom(ms) will always be flawed..

Here's a different perspective: why didn't they just release the game with most of the current features already in place instead of this step-backward and make people wait approach?
Perhaps it's just me, but this does not make any sense. From my Understanding 4J started the conversion using the PC beta1.6 version over 12 months ago when the PC version was, 1.6.
Put it another way. I have written a book about how to wash cars. This book will be published today in English, in a couple of days I'll update it to allow for the new Squizzey Wash system to be incorporated. The book will continue to be revised with new ways to wash cars.
I now want my book to be translated into Latin. I only have my current publication you can work on. Please go ahead and translate it. When your done in about 12 months time, (my book is about 900 pages long), you can amend the translated edition to account for the updates I have made to the original manuscript.
Your analogy is quite good but flawed. First if its a manuscript it would not have been released until there was a final version not in little chunks or multiple revisions no matter the translation. Further strengthening the original statement, it should not have been release until it was done. Not this beta version we all play and payed for. Yes a beta until it atleast reaches the 1.0 version of minecraft by definition its still a beta.
Some people here are saying that they should have just released the game at 1.2.3. If that was done, the entire world would have to wait 5 months to even play Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition at all just because some players wanted to start off with all of these new things.

Yes and they would have gotten alot less grief from that on these forums and many more around the world. I believe it to have been a bad idea to release it unfinished on xbox. Many game devs would agree do you see others releasing a game in beta form for all to see, no. I already know of dozens of people who played this version and immediately hated or disliked it and will now never play it again and never know the joy of what it could have and will be. The same reason other companies dont let everyone play betas, because its not a full representation of the final product and subject to criticism.

Even if they had waited, the product would not have ever been new and unseen. The PC version has existed for some time and will, no doubt, continue to be updated almost continuously for quite awhile yet. So nomatter at what point the XBox version was released, it would always likely have been behind whatever the most recent released update fo the PC version was at that time; and getting grief from the forums for not being exactly like the PC was inevitable. Mojang owns the code and releases it to 4J AFTER they've developed it, not as they're developing it. The only other alternative would have been for Mojang to have waited to release the PC version until there was a fully functioning XBox version to accompany it... and we all know that was NEVER gonna happen.

You dont fully get my point here. Its not that it doesnt match the PC 1 for 1 on features at ever second but that its on a closed system that for the most part when a game is released its finished and represents the product they are selling you. This game was released in a beta pre version 1.0(where pc minecraft was stated to be final but not finished) with promises to be complete one day.
There's more to it than just copy and paste. It's being re-written in another programming language.
Of course there is more work involved there. Re-wrtten but still copied just not as easy as copy and paste and not as hard as creating it from scratch.

You're not getting my point... It's not possible to finally complete something that is a version of something else that will NEVER be itself fully complete. It's also impossible for the XBox version to be termed a "beta" since a "beta" is a pre-release of something brand new and Minecraft itself existed for some time before the first release of the XBox version. A "beta" not only tests the functions of something new, it tests how the market might receive the entire concept. That was already pretty easy to guess given the popularity of Minecraft on PC and even a few other copycat programs that exist on the XBox.

First off beta in no way represent something brand new just something in a considered not final form and in no way is used to test how the market will receive it. And I agree that its hard to release something as final when a game like minecraft seems to never be done. But it was considered to be beta in all versions prior to 1.0 hence the renaming and numbering of releases. And releasing any version prior to 1.0 is by definition releasing a BETA.

This is one of the toughest, tricksiest Minecraft updates, not simply rebalancing the existing play of tools and materials but folding in the enormities of Creative Mode. New to Creative Mode? In a nutshell, it gives you infinite blocks and the power of flight. Just one of several forthcoming Minecraft features that will totally change the game.
"We are trying to do updates bit by bit but this particular update happens to be quite a substantial one," head of research and development Richard Reavy told his followers on Tuesday. Other confirmed features include new Easter eggs for Tutorial World, an experience system, Superflat Worlds and chainmail.
While you wait, why not try out one of our favourite Minecraft Xbox 360 world seeds? Or, if you think your realm is a cut above, submit it as a possible OXM Minecraft World of the Week?

And it served absolutely no gameplay purpose until full release 1.0 came out. It was just for looks. No need to clutter the hotbar for reason.
