I finally did it (YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!), i got my slime farm to work! so basically, a while back i made a slime farm, but it didn't work (probably because i didn't have my caves lit up.) so i just abandoned it and i made a new slime farm. this time i dug all around it and made sure all my caves where lit up, but it still didn't work. so decided i would just expand it it and maybe it would work then. but after only a minute of digging i ran into my old farm, and it was filled to the brim with slimes!. i think what happened was when i was making my new farm, it gave the old one a chance to spawn slimes. so then when i went up to wait for slimes to spawn in my new farm, they wouldn't because the game had already reached the mob cap in that area.
Easiest and quickest way, if not the most elegant: Dig a water pool, 5x5, 3 deep. (You know how to do infinite water by now, right?) You want this pool at the edge of your farm, at the start of the path to where you're going to wait. Leave only a 1-block-wide access to the farm from the waiting side, and a nice wide access from the slime side. The buggers will always come straight at you, and follow you right into the pool. Just get out on the narrow side, and let them drown. They can't swim up, so that will happen quickly. Make sure to let all the sizes die. Big ones split into small ones, small ones into tiny ones. Then they drop slimeballs.
Later on, if you want to do water channels and a fancy killing room, you can. But this way lets you get a good number of slimeballs quickly, without any danger.

That actually sounds like it would be the easiest way, i'll probably try that now.
Or, you can build what I call a "safe room" with a 1w x 2t opening.
Run through the attract them to you, then run Into your room and fight them Through the door.
I seem to get the highest yield from hitting them while holding a torch, but any non-weapon or non-tool will keep you from over damaging and killing them without slime balls dropping.
Also, the littlest ones can't hurt you, they just push you around. The others can't get in the door to hurt you.
People make these slime farms out to be so hard. I bet ive made a dozen or so fully working slime farms. Takes about an hour of work depending on what supplies you have. I wish people would just read that Slime thread someone made a while ago. He practically spoon feeds it to the reader, I dont know how people cant figure it out.
Congratulations. How many slimes do you get in 5-10 minutes (If you know)?
none, as it takes more than 5-10 minutes to get even a single one to spawn. You need about 15 minutes for a slime to spawn with any sort of regularity, assuming all other factors are met. Now, once started...how many you get depends on a large number of things. First, if all caves are lit AND there is no way for passives to spawn above ground you will maximize the spawn rate. Also, you should consider not playing in multiplayer, as it affects spawn rates as well.
couple tips ive learned, for one, theres a program that will tell you aproxmitely where your slime spawn chunks are, use that then dig a room at least 30x30x15 and light it up. and for killing the slimes. you can do one of my favorite killing rooms, its 3 tall structure. with a 1 block tall opening that goes around the building, when the slimes swarm the structure just shoot arrows out of the hole. make a door or an opening and access your slime farm to collect the slimeballs. you can also use fences to limit the amount of them that can swarm you. make little corrals that are wll lit and fince them of leaving yourself a path btween them.
16x16 pad with 3 wide water channels off the sides leading to 1 corner which has a 3x3 hole.
In that 3x3 hole you just want the top 2 layers filled with source blocks (no running water)
In the middle of the 2nd layer replace the water with a half slab (block in middle on bottom then put slab on top then bust out block on bottom, you're holding these 2 layers of water up with signs so there is a pocket of air on the bottom layer)
The big slimes will drown because they will travel far enough into the water
The medium slimes will drown because of the half slab (they wont drop down to air pocket)
The small slimes will drop down into the air pocket (Which would be replaced with a water stream taking them to an area)
I made my slime farm easy, turns out my mine interesected over 4 chunks. Get sick of seeing them bouncing around that i made it automatic and had them get pushed into lava...
I accidently made a slime farm in my strip mine... now there bluddy everywhere jumping around... It's like an infestation I have to go down there every so often and cut them all up.
Seriously. Is there a way to keep slimes from spawning? Pretty sure the answer to that is "no", but figured I'd check here. I have a large underground area (roughly 40x70x35) that I've cleared out to create an "underworld" and the damn things are everywhere. They mostly don't even notice me, so it's not a huge problem, just a pain. I kill them with swords now. I have more damn slime balls then I could ever use.
I wish you could move inventory between worlds just so I could give away the slime balls and redstone I've accumulated to other players.

Yes put water down so they dont spawn, and as SonOfSai said, half slabs, amongst other things mobs are not able to spawn on.

Good advice. Thanks.
I'll try and figure out a way to incorporate some half slabs and water into the area. Even if I could cut the number of them in half, it would be a big improvement.

Plus it seems to take anywhere from 6-10 minutes for the to reliably spawn, so you may just not have been patient enough.
However, I you knew those rules and followed them, it's most like your lighting up nearby caves that did the trick.
Congrats, whatever it was!

Retired StaffDon't know why either, all spawning conditions are correct, and I'm in a slime chunk. But good job nevertheless.

you could put half slabs on the floors in the areas you think they are spawning

Retired StaffYou can find the spawn chunks using the tools listed above. I can't think of any other possible way to stop them.
