Ive been working on a slime farm for a while and it is just not producing slimes. I looked on the slime finder and it said they would be where I am. I have a 20x85 cleared out area all torched up and ready to go. It is on layer 4 (first bedrock layer). I have a small room 27 blocks high away from it, ive sat in it for over 5 minutes and still no slimes. If anyone can tell me what is wrong it would be appreciated.
1. The slime finder sucks. Sorry, just my opinion. Better of picking a spot thats close to your base.
2. Room isnt big enough, widen that 20 to an 80.
3. Wait for 10 mins minimum.
4. Enjoy Slimes!
People really over think finding slimes. I found slimes by accident. I made a huge area near bedrock where I strip mine, I went down there one day and there was like 3-4 slimes hopping around. Now slimes spawn there all the time. Moral of the stroy, just do what you do when you mine, hollow out a big area near your house, odds are you might find some slimes.
i would be willing to help mine out an area but also there are thins to consider in your farm ...
Slimes dont spawn on blocks occupied by a torch
if there are caves in the area they will spawn all sort of monsters instead of slimes and you will reach your hostile mob limit in no time
i would suggest putting the torches in the ceiling (if thats the problem) or light up caves in the area to make slimes more likley to spawn
if you need a hand feel free to add me GT: Phantomphreak89

2. Wrong, its plenty! Mine is 16 x16 and spawns crap loads!
The biggest impact on your slime farm that hasnt been stated is lighting up ALL tunnels Around it! Remember mobs can spawn upto 128 blocks away! But the majority spawn right after the 24 block limit! So if you ONLY light up areas around the limit, it will FORCE the game to spawn them further away! I think this is the biggest issue with slime farms that people dont realize! They will only START spawning at LEAST 24 blocks away! Once they are 32 blocks away, the game CONSIDERS them for despawning, and only does so under certain circumstances! Read the wiki! Then after 128 blocks they despawn immediately! Now this is a 128 block radius (around you)! So pie x 128 squared (cant find symbols on ipad) is 51472 blocks in total! And i think my number is still wrong as that is just the area of a circle and not a shpere since they can spawn below you as well and above! I dont know the spawning height limit of hostile mobs right now. So there you go! My 2 cents worth!
Light up the damn caves and it will **** slimes! Oh and dont forget, any caves that you light up in the limits may contain slime spawning chunks as well and are just as capable of producing slimes as well! This fact alone has the chance of lagging your xbox as slimes have a tendency of slowing it down in large numbers! Hopefully 4j will fix this by either improving on the slimes code or limiting the amount below the lag causing threashold of them!
I have done this and if i dont keep killin them my xbox lags. Once i kill the ones in my farm it improves but still lags some. And i traveled the related caves for more and as i killed them, it kept iroving!

if i put glowstone blocks in the ceiling it would work?
i had an area bedrock where slimes would spawn juts fine i would walk away for a couple minnutes and return and have slimes spawning, but then i tried to make the area where they were spawining bigger and they did not spaw no more. i then read about them not spawing on touches so i removed all of them and put pumkins instead but still no luck. any thoughts

Ok ok, yes i forgot to mention the external cave lighting thing, and yeah the slime finder worked for you, and yeah 16x16 is big enough if you hit the right spot, but...

doesnt that look great
Lol! Looks like a dream! Torches spaced out perfectly to allow spawning of large slimes
