Has anyone ever killed a Ghast on XBLA? on the pc they do with the bow, but When i try i can't seem to hit the ghast. With the ghasts it makes it insanely hard to farm glowstone or nether materials unless i'm on peaceful. If anyone has killed a ghast on the XBLA and has some tips, i would like them. Thanks in advance.
I don't think you can, I even hit back their fire balls at them plus all the arrows I hit them with and nothing. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to kill one of them.

Add me if you like I play mostly COD, but I do play alot of Minecraft also.
actually there are a couple ways to kill a ghast.
1: hit it's fireballs at the correct angle, most likely a few feet in front of it.
2: lure it under a "lavafall".

Guys, do your research. LAVA AND FIRE DO NOT HURT ANYTHING FROM THE NETHER!

At the moment a Ghast can not be hit with an arrow. Maybe a fix will come soon.
You will simply have to hit the ghast fireballs back and hope for the best it doesn't take too long to kill it.
You can hit a Ghast with an arrow. It was how I killed my first Ghast on the Xbox 360 Edition. It's just really hard to do because their hitbox is not the same size as their body.
I've killed countless ghasts with a diamond sword, it just requires getting them to get close enough to hit, never managed to kill one with anything else though.
I suggest you don't do close combat with a ghast unless you want your eardrums broken.

You can kill Ghasts with arrows. I've killed 3 or 4 ghasts with arrows.
I'm pretty sure you can kill ghasts with arrows. I haven't killed any ghasts since the 1.3.7 update (that I know of), but they were able to be hurt/killed by arrows prior to the 1.7.3 update.
yes fire and lava can hurt stuff in nether
because there from nether - dont change a thing
fire/lava can kill them
It appears that fire/lava hurts them, but that is only the animation for when something is on fire. I have sat inside a bunker for a good 15 minutes watching a Ghast take a lava shower.
Also, aiming for the tentacles is how I kill Ghasts.

"Ghasts may also be set on fire, but fire and lava don't actually damage them. A similar effect is seen with Zombie Pigmen. When a Ghast is caught in lava, its movement is impeded, and can then be easily targeted with arrows. At around 23:09 in , a Ghast impeded by a lavafall can be seen, and again, but closer and for a longer period of time, "
No, they are not affected by fire nor lava. That quote is directly from the Minecraft Wiki. Don't believe me? Click here.
Have a lot of arrows, until you've done it a bit, it can be hard to judge the angle to shoot at to get the right trajectory to hit them far away. I actually built an archery range in one of my worlds to practice my bow skills specifically to fight ghasts more effectively.
I generally put a cobblestone wall in front of me and try to lure them close after they see me, I also try to keep cobblestone below me so ghasts don't wear through the floor and send me down into the firey bath below.
A better question is how to insure that you get their drops for when they're more useful, generally when I attack ghasts they immediately turn tail and flee to get a better angle on me, so by the time i take one out they're usually floating above a lava lake

make them follow you into a fire area
and light them on fire

I keep my sound at about halfway, so nothing is too loud. Some people don't play with sound and or music at all.
