Has anyone figured out a way to make chests face the direction that they are supposed to? I've tried a few different things, but a chest will only face one direction if it is placed in the middle of a room, and that kind of ticks me off.
There seems to be no way, other than make sure there are blocks behind the chest. It will even change directions if you change the chest's surroundings. Yes, I hate that too, but it is what it is.

Forgive me i've not tested this but one time I put a block next to it and it turned by itself the way I wanted it too! ...But once again not sure if it turns back when that block is removed.

Yeah, that is the part that gets to me. It really should just have the opening side face the player. All they need to do is make them behave the same way that stairs behave. Hopefully they fix it in the update where chests actually open.
Chests will be completely changed in 1.8.2. They will now actually open when you open them, they'll have a sound effect when opening, and when you place them, they'll face the player.

For example: x=blocks, c=chest

^ The front of your chest would be right where the arrow points.
