If I wanted it to be hidden then I would make it either underground or in a mountain, and use a 2x2 hidden piston door with a button hidden in tall grass.
2x2 hidden door on a mountain side.Bud switch hooked up to a piece of dirt out front, all you have to do is hoe the land and run inside. I ended up putting a lock-out switch inside because once the block updated back to dirt it would open / close the 2x2 piston door again.
usually a 2X2 sticky piston door behind a waterfall. i'm new to pistons and "hidden" things, so i'd love to see more posts in this thread to get ideas.
I built a 8 block deep stone slab well in the lake outside my decoy wood house that had nothing in it but a bench and a crafting table. then i drained the well added 7 blocks worth of ladder going up leaveing the top with no ladder then I dumped a bucket in the hole and the water dosent effect the ladder so it looks like a well but its really just a thin layer of water that dosent fall any deeper than one block, its actully pretty hard to tell there is a ladder with no water magiclly under the water.
I have the standard piston hidden door, but activated by a pressure plate that is inside the base. You have to go to another area away from the base, find a "hidden" hole and jump-throw an item in. It falls into a series of water slides, pushing it inside the base to activate the plate. Clear the plate on your way in to close the hidden door. Exit is a separate free fall drop around the back so that people can't see where the real entrance is.
I love the pressure plate under lava idea, will have to try that at some point.
I make fake hidden bases filled with traps, lava pits, landmines, pit mines, oh the list goes on. Then I hide chests filled with my good items under man-made lakes or behind piston doors hooked up to AND switches.
How do you hide yours?
Me?....... Lesbian?......pony please
Until the "x-ray vision" glitch is fixed, you don't.
I might have to try that.
Also, I hope 4J adds enderchests in a later update, because then your items will be 100% safe.

Hard part is which lake has the base...

I use a 2 by 1 lava fall with a minecart on both sides
