how do i get 1 piston to push the piston above it up then the next one and soforth this
might be a stuped queston but this is my first big redstone job.

Impossible for more than 2 pistons straight up. Even on the ground is a challenge, they have to activate so the 1st one goes first then delays then the next one, on the reverse the last one has to go first then the first one

so i have to put a block between each piston so i can get the redstone to each piston

I haven't tried this but I believe if you run redstone onto a block next to where the next piston will be raised up to, each piston would activate once it is raised to the redstone next to it.
I believe what you're looking for is a Vertical Piston Extender. Can find tutorials easily on youtube by searching "Double Piston Extender" and specifying vertical or horizontal depending on which way you want it to go.
Its pretty easy actually....just get a flat area, lay down a row of pistons facing up. Wire all of them to extend and extend them. Then place another row of pistons on top of that...rinse and repeat. Just play around and youll get it. I have a stack of pistons 4 tall by 7 wide and they extend and retract with the push of a single button. Trial and error.
