Check the slime 101 thread. It's a sure way to find and get slimes every time!

I am a Minecraft tourist. I am currently unavailable under the XBoxLIVE ID listed here but can be found under ZombieL0C0. If you see me online playing Minecraft, send a message and I will gladly take a stroll through your world.
Besides the Slimes 101, I find that just digging down to bedrock, then clear out a large area at least 3 high. Doing all of that on peaceful, then afterwards go up a difficulty lvl and go down. Keep in mind that mobs don't spawn close to you, so when you restart the world make sure your a bit higher up so they will spawn in. Thats my method, and obviously its up to you to try it out, and if for some reason you cant get it sorted out just ask and I shall show you what I mean. [No creeping intended]
I just got slimes for the first time today. First step was this application to find the slime-capable chunks for my world's seed. That revealed 4 in an 'L' pattern, and that's where I went. I cleared one chunk, 3 blocks high, at Y=12, illuminated it brightly, saved and restarted at Easy difficulty, and waited 25 blocks away. It didn't even take a minute for the first few slimes to spawn. I tried fighting them, but I took a lot of damage, and killing them seemed to destroy slimeballs too. So I went back to Peaceful, cleared another chunk, then dug out a 5x5 water pool, 3 blocks deep, on one corner of the 2nd chunk. Behind it is a 1-block-wide escape route, where the bigger slimes can't follow. Next time I faced the slimes, I lured them to the pool, and they stupidly jumped right in. They can't swim, so they drowned, splitting up into smaller slimes in the process, and leaving behind a bunch of slimeballs. I ended up collecting nearly 3 stacks this way.
The only other thing I had to do to increase the spawning was chase all the other hostile mobs I kept hearing through the walls, kill them, then light up the areas where they spawned. This is important. You want slimes to have the greatest chance of spawning by taking away other hostile mobs' spawning opportunities. Since only slimes will spawn in the light, you want to illuminate as much of the slime-chunks' surroundings as you can.
LuLz hes right, but thats a great informative post there, or you can clear out a bunch at bedrock light it up with glowstone & hope u found a chunk or follow the guide.
