I have an idea what if? You could get an admin to designate an area as yours and no other players can influence that area?
Would this work? Is it even possible?

Why not just use Microsofts existing cloud save structure and allow a maps creator to attach a number of potential hosts from their friends list.
Then, the map save is persistently available online and whoever got their first is the host for a particular session. If the host leaves the next available host takes over, the session ends when no hosts are online.
Having dedicated servers just seems like a waste of money when you could do the above with existing systems. the only way to justify servers is for infinite worlds, which I could care less about frankly.
How could you not want things like more players and bigger worlds?
The idea of Minecraft is to explore, survive and be creative.
The current size of the Xbox worlds basically destroys a third of what Minecraft is. In about an half an hour of exploring you can easily reach each corner of the map.
In my eyes dedicated servers would make the game more enjoyable because you would always be playing around others... (My friends don't play Minecraft often anymore) which means I'm often playing alone.
I think 4J should even just get a few to test out whether servers are going to be popular or not.
If admins can keep briefing down I'll probably never play Minecraft locally again.

Your clearly quite satisfied with your own little set up.
But I think you'll find most people don't have people that would be bothered with it when there's only rarely more than two people on their friends list playing or even interested in playing minecraft.
I for one would love to go on and meet new people who might be interested in working together when mining and etc.
And do you think it would be possible to assign an area to a particular player for example.
I build a house just outside the spawn area which would be very susceptible to grieving.
However I build a fence around my house and ask an admin if the fence and all inside can be my area so he somehow tells the server that only I can break or place blocks inside that area until ten meters below the surface so I can also have a basement.
This would also include entering chests.
Would this be possible?

I've already met more people through this site than I have time to play with, and I haven't tried very hard.
I'm not saying they shouldn't make servers and that it wouldn't have great benefits, but if it was a choice between them implementing that at an extra fee or the file sharing solution I suggested for free, I know which I'd prefer.
Or even better: both!
Oh I don't think they'll charge you for anything other than renting the servers.
Battlefield 3 ran several hundred seemingly fine for what I would say was a very fair price.

Ok in my opinion it would be great to add dedicated servers and also they would have to charge more money for it because you're already paying a subscription to be GOLD member like in other games like halo or black ops, the thing that they could do is to add this feature and charge money only the fist time and NOT monthly or whatever( because you're already paying to be GOLD) anyway it would be a major change for the game so maybe minecraft wouldn't be an "arcade game" anymore more like a regular game( halo and stuff)
well we should have a dedicated server for the minecraft xbox360 version it would make it so better. And also we should be able to save the persons map on the dedicated servers and continue on creating things on the map..and when they log back into the game(server) it will be updated.
I got to ask does anybody get bad lag issues like reappearing blocks when playing on friends worlds?
If I compare how much lag I get on halo 4 to bf3 the difference is tremendous despite bf3 having 6 more players at the least.
I think that dedicated servers would also greatly reduce the players lag.

I would love dedicated servers if we had more admin controls. I'm sure 4J and Microsoft would like to add a few rent a server options but I feel like it may be a Nextbox thing rather than an Xbox 360 thing.
It is expected that Microsoft will be annoncing the next Xbox before E3 hits in June and the console having a November 2013 release. Various sources have given descriptions on the Nextbox including people from game publishers who already have the developer kits. The below text is from X360A who got this from research group Baird Equity. True or not no one knows.
“Given the fragile state of the console game market, we expect the E3 trade show in June will take on added significance, most likely providing the industry with the first public opportunity to examine next-generation hardware,” wrote Baird’s Colin Sebastian in a note to investors.
“Our checks suggest that next-generation console hardware will be largely built from ‘off the shelf’ high-end PC components, along with hybrid physical/digital distribution models, enhanced voice controls and motion sensing (Kinect integration with every Xbox), and broad multi-media capabilities.”
“Moreover, a PC-based architecture (Intel chips in the case of Xbox) should have a number of advantages over custom-developed silicon: for one, the learning curve for software developers will be shorter than completely new technology. Second, the cost of production and retail price points should be lower than prior console launches,” he continued.
“Third, it will be easier to build online services around PC chip architecture, including flexible business models (free-to-play, subscriptions) and multi-media (over the top) content offerings. For Microsoft, this design will also allow for more integration with Windows 8 and Windows Mobile devices.”
I'm honestly clueless when it comes to all this and to top it off I just want to collapse on my bed right now.
If the above is true wouldn't it be easier and make more sense in Microsofts ££eyes$$ to just wait for the Nextbox release before trying to set up a rent a server type thing? Assuming Minecraft actually works on the Nextbox...
Sorry for the big wall of text too!
I suppose they would just wait.
I bet by E3 they'll announce it and stop everything they were doing or wanted to get done on the Xbox.
I can live with waiting for the next console I'm also hoping fallout 4 and The next red dead will be out on it early.

Anyone who has bought a dedicated server on the PC knows that they are ran by independent companys with limmited servers. This means that if they were to put dedicated servers on they would have limmited dedicated servers avalible for purchase. Less supply means the large demand would not be satified. And you would likely also be paying for these dedicated servers by the month because mojang/4J/Microsoft isn't going to run your servers for free. Yeah they did say dedicated servers was a possibility. When was the last time you got an update on that idea? Yeah its unlikely that it will happen.

Same with the skins
They could do skins system that u just edit ur skins for free, but they didn't because they wanted more money.

I don't think that's a good idea because we already paid for the game we shouldn't have to pay more
And they could hook the servers up to the pc
For example I can log in to my Xbox account from my windows 8 so just get an app for that etc
