Minecraft for the XBLA should have dedicated servers.
Why? The current multiplayer system is ok. But not everyone has friends who plays minecraft on xbox.
In order to join sessions now you must first add this person to your friendlist, and join their world when they are online or invite them to yours.
[I am not saying to do away with the old multiplayer system, but to add dedicated servers aswell]
Obviously, this is highly ineffective.
Anyone who regularly plays Minecraft for the XBLA via the friend network with fill their friend list in a matter of days. Thus making it inconvenient to simply browse your friend list and invite friends to your minecraft session (Or any other xbox live multiplayer game you are playing)
But Dedicated servers would do more than offer convenience.
It would enhance the multiplayer experience for console minecrafters.
By offering players the ability to join their favorite servers whenever they want, they would be able to complete even greater projects with new friends.
Console gamers could get their minecraft fix with out going through the disappointing feeling of starting fresh just to kill time until their favorite map host gets online.
Xbox:360 Consoles.
There are people who do leave their xboxs on for days at a time so that they can simulate having their own 24/7 server. This can result in multiple system failures for the users console. Xbox's are not meant to run for days on end. With dedicated servers, people would be saving their consoles health aswell as freeing their xbox up for other uses (other than having a 400$ server hosting firebox)
Im not here to tell them HOW they should do it, for if they were to add dedicated servers, they would be the ones who set them up, not us.
But im here to suggest WHY they should.
If you agree or feel that they should add dedicated servers, please vote yes and tell us why you think dedicated servers are a good idea.
Maybe keep the current world hosting option, and add a dedicated server option
The current servers, hosted by players could be the same as they are now, or soon to be
But make the dedicated servers just alittle better. More options along the lines of admining it. Since it'll be a 24/7 server, you could make players have some sort of capablilities. Like, kicking & such
bigger worlds, as suggested, but I thought that was an xbox-based issue. Any bigger and things were getting buggy or something...
I dunno.
I think it'd be cool ****. And if there's some cool features that come with the servers, I'd totally be down for paying.
Microsoft and Minecraft would both profit, whereas they currently DON'T profit from PC servers. 3rd parties do. (or custom hosts, but that's besides the point)
Microsoft would be the only one to profit from Minecraft having rented servers. You'd have to pay with Microsoft Points and Microsoft themselves would provide the servers. Mojang doesn't make money off of servers on the PC because they don't host the servers. To play PC multiplayer, you either have to host the server on your PC, personal server equipment, or go rent one from a website.

Dedicated servers= more players= more mc sells. so indeed, both sides would profit.

Not always. There is no guarantee that dedicated servers would mean bigger maps and all the other stuff people want. That stuff still relies on your Xbox 360, not the server.
Just look at Battlefield 3. That game has actually suffered a little bit from having rented servers.

That is quite an assumption to make, equating dedicated servers with more Minecraft sales. Keep in mind that even if they did add dedicated servers, I am 99% certain that would not result in better features for just the people that use them (such as a larger world). If something gets added to the game, it is going to be added for everyone. The only real thing dedicated servers would add would be allowing worlds to be accessed even if the host is offline. And maybe cutting down on rendering errors.

The maps dont have to be bigger. servers will still sell.
And bf3 brought something that no other shooter has ever brought to console before, communities, and has benefited from such but thats off topic

and said features would more than likely be simple administration (if that) which it pretty much already has with the kick once option

So with the Battlefield rent-a-server thing, is Microsoft the only ones that make the money off of that? Seeing as how you also pay with msp. 4J make the servers, pay that with sales.
Mike just said before you that Mojang does'nt make money from mp, which is why dedicated servers on xbox would make everyone money forever. Also this idea is cool.

DICE and EA provide the servers for Battlefield 3 not Microsoft. I'm guessing 4J doesn't have the means or the budget to run a lot of rented servers.
The only people who make money from multiplayer on the Xbox 360 are Microsoft. Adding rented servers probably wouldn't change that. Mojang definitely isn't going to provide the servers and like I said, I doubt 4J has the means to supply that many servers at once.
I think the vast majority of people who want dedicated servers have already bought the game, i cant remember a single person saying they havnt bought it because it dosnt have dedicated servers. So yeh like other people have said, this is a bit of a crazy assumption to make.
We sir, must know different people then.
And either way, its the top selling game on the xbla. and im sure it will hold that title for a while
Minecraft on xbla wouldnt be hurt by adding dedicated servers. Not one bit.

The obvious solution is for 4J to propose a business partnership with M$ where M$ gets the revenue from rented servers and pays 4J royalities (some of which would likely have to roll back to Mojang). Unless someone at 4J was really stupid, I can all but guarantee that M$ did not get full rights to MCXBLA as part of the agreement. Thus, if M$ wanted to make money by offering rented servers, they would need to negotiate the right to do so as a separate contract (At least, that's how I would have done the first deal with M$ if I was 4J). Setting it up this way, everyone makes money and encourages further growth of the product. (i.e. especially if the server rental royalties are enough to cover the cost of future content/update development - which would be required to play on said servers.....)

Bump
I for one would love for dedicated servers to be added on minecraft.
I can't see them doing anything other than add to the experience.
If you don't want there to be dedicated servers... Why use them?
And if anybody from 4J is reading this could you please give us some insight of where you are on dedicated servers at the moment?
I have no idea if this is possible for them to even do so, but if they did it would be a lot of fun to join public games and have some pop fun, although the map would be briefed within days, and the X-ray glitch would need to be fixed, due to people finding bases and such underground.
I must admit, I do enjoy pvp quite a bit, and public maps would be so awesome

Bottom line.
Minecraft multiplayer on xbox fills your friend list. the friend network is not a good solution to mc:xbla multiplayer
dedicated servers on the other hand are
