Does anyone know if we'll be able to place, or even move, mob spawners in this next update? I'm working on a survival project and I'd like to be able to put spawners in the basements of houses or in apartment rooms so that hoards of zombies chase players out of buildings. You know, to try and add a bit of zombie movie mayhem to my survival city!
I've heard that in creative mode on the PC you have to use the /give cheat to add spawner boxes to your inventory if you want to do this, but that they don't appear in the actual creative mode inventory. Are we 360 players kinda out of luck on this front, or are they gonna add the cheat commands to the 360 version as well?
Maybe there's a better way to get a group of zombies to lie in wait, that I've just not thought of yet. . . Any ideas?
Silk touch perhaps? Even though that was patched in a later update. Although it spawned pigs not zombies :/ Or, you can move it with pistons. Not sure it works though.

Can't push them with pistons. My guess is whether they bring enchanting forward or not, silk touch will not work on spawners. That was fixed very fast in the PC version.
Shoot. I was really hoping to have certain buildings just crawling with Zombies!
There will be spawn eggs for that. Mojang most likely never put mob spawners in creative because you have to change the tile data of the block for it to spawn anything other than pigs. So, I highly doubt that they will be added in creative mode for Xbox.

Spawn eggs will come in 1.2.3, so you're gonna have to wait a while for those.
Ok, If i do wait that long, do the mobs spawned from the eggs remain there until killed or drawn away, or will they disappear once i move on to build elsewhere?

They will have a chance of despawning when you get 32 blocks away and automatically despawn at 128 blocks away(assuming the distance is the same as it is on the PC version).

No, that don't work, my friend plays minecraft on PC and told me it didn't work, so my guess is that i want them to put it in the creative mode inventory, or someone tweet them (or ask them) if they are going to put it in creative mode inventory, but if you ask me, it's not really necessary cuz we're going to have spawn eggs in 1.2.3 update, so who needs them...

It did work when silk touch was just released. It was patched real quickly afterwords though. Another alternative you could do is possibly making it a dark room so other mobs can spawn? Light up caves though.
i hope they let us move them with silk touch for a while then. I've already found 4 spawners, unfortunately they are mainly spiders. I think it would be a good idea to tweet them on the subject. This may just be the day i actually make a twitter account!
Just wait for 1.2.3. We will get spawn eggs for all of the mobs in the game.
Spawn Eggs + Dispenser = Mob Spawner.
Problem solved. I highly doubt they'll add something the PC still doesn't have. Especially when by 1.2.3, we'll have almost the exact same thing as a mob spawner using the combo I said above.

I have always wondered why Mojang never added spawners to the creative inventory. Now I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I know (and I have done this) that NEI, an item spawn menu mod for PC version, allows you to give yourself spawners for specific mobs, and they work correctly when placed.

Ooh, that'll work! have it so as soon as they enter a room the dispenser pops out a bunch of zombies. Could be fun to rig it up so if the person enters a hallway dispensers spawn zombies in the rooms spanning the hall that all begin marching towards the middle. I wonder if zombies are going to tear down doors by then, too. That could be a lot of fun. Leave something at the end of the hall to entice them to stay a bit. If zombies can't destroy doors then i'll just leave the door off until then.
Thanks very much! I think this may just be the solution i was looking for. Even if creative mode comes out tomorrow, which we know it won't, my city still won't even be close to done until December, maybe January, I've got plenty of work to keep me occupied until then!
