first off got to ask if any of this is actually confirmed, cuase last i read about the update (officially announced by 4j) it said nothing about changes to the weapons.
In 1.8 on the PC, sword damage was changed to be less than it was before.
also if they are nerfing the sword and buffing the bow then perhaps this is a clue to enchanting being added to the game, as to balance out the weapons.
Swords were nerfed on the PC long before Enchanting was added so the same thing could and might happen on the Xbox 360 Edition. They're already being balanced. The bow in 1.8.2 will now diminish like other weapons and tools. It will also require a few seconds to pull back and fire like a real bow unlike what we have now that is basically a fully automatic machine gun bow. It will become stronger than a sword, but will require more time to kill things than the sword thus balancing it out.
im not sure but i dont think you can enchant bows. so they would need to be buffed so thy would still be a viable weapon. dont qoute me im not entirely sure ner played the pc version before but that seems like the most likely scinerio.
You can enchant bows, but not until 1.1 on the PC or our 1.2.3. Even if 4J brings Enchanting forward, it will most likely be the original one where bows cannot be enchanted.
quick quesiton about bow durability - does it decline with every use or only with shot use? There are a couple of items that apepar to not decline with certain uses (shears on wool?) If you hit and break a block with a bow, will it count as a use?

I don't think so. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it only lowers in durability when firing arrows.
Aw, Mustache_Guy beat me to it. This is why we should be able to delete posts.
It will, in fact, be easier than ever to kill Creepers in the next update. They may be nerfing sword damage but we get this lovely little thing called sprinting. With sprinting, Creepers become a pretty much non existent problem.
In Minecraft PC, all I had to do was stand in one place with any sword, and the knockback prevented the Creeper from starting off its fuse. In Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, however, the Creeper prepares for explosion when within 4-5 blocks from you. If I now have to Sprint attack every single hit of an Iron Sword, reaching level 50 will become about 30% longer and 20% harder.

Mob Grinders. Build a good one and you'll hit level 50 in maybe 20 to 30 minutes.
So to reach level 50 within a week, 4J Studios is making it where you must have a Mob Grinder? Sigh...
I didn't say that. You can run out and kill all the mobs you like. The fastest way has and always will be to make a mob grinder. It's been like that ever since XP was added to the game.
first off got to ask if any of this is actually confirmed, cuase last i read about the update (officially announced by 4j) it said nothing about changes to the weapons. second bows & arrows arnt useless, 5 shots to kill a creeper at the edge of its spawning area. pretty good to me. also ie never had trouble killing creepers at close range, they rarely blow up. if you watch your bottom hud, where it displayes key actions then you hit it the second you can the sword has far more range than its actuall length so you can hit them from pretty far away. then you drop back a few blocks and repeat. worst thing you can do in this situation is spam the sword. thats great for zombies and spiders but not creepers. speed is moot, timing is the most important factor here. also if they are nerfing the sword and buffing the bow then perhaps this is a clue to enchanting being added to the game, as to balance out the weapons. im not sure but i dont think you can enchant bows. so they would need to be buffed so thy would still be a viable weapon. dont qoute me im not entirely sure ner played the pc version before but that seems like the most likely scinerio.
All of this is true and came in the 1.8 update, look on the minecraft wiki.
Enchanting has a possibility of being in the next update, but sword nerfing has nothing to do with enchanting. Enchanting came in a later update.
Yes, you can enchant bows (i.e. the infinity enchantment. All you need is 1 arrow and you can fire unlimited arrows.)
Last of all GRAMMAR AND SPELLING, unless you are a kid. Not trying to be mean here.
Earning experience through grinders - in order to get experience orbs from your grinder, your character has to kill the mob somehow, correct (i.e. do the "last heart of damage.")
Does this last heart of damage have to be from an actual hit or can it come from other source (I.e. do you get experience if you drop a ton of gravel on a mob)?

I do believe you yourself have to kill the mob in order to get the XP.
I had no idea they were nerfing swords. I use swords more than a bow so I can conserve my arrows for the nether to kill Ghasts. I just usually run at a creeper and hit him constantly before he blows up and I'm usually successful but if their going to be nerfed then it will just make it more of a challenge which I'm looking forward to

They are going to nerf it because when Enchating comes out, you can enchant your sword to have Sharpness V/IV to super power it up. Add Fire Aspect and Looting and you got a pretty good sword.
It makes it incredibly easy as long as you're going one on one with a single Creeper. If there are other Creepers or other hostile mobs, it'll still be difficult like before.
Like I said, sprinting. When you sprint and hit, it gives a knock back effect. It will push the Creeper you hit up to 4 or 5 blocks away from you. We will also be getting the ability to do Critical Hits in 1.8.2 that will do extra damage when done.
They may be weakening swords, but they are adding in many things to balance it out.
you can't sprint backwards, can you?

Don't forget that you can do critical hits too.
WHEN it comes out...
