I've looked at the various fire blade contraptions I can find on YouTube and I'm wondering if there's soemthing special you have to do to ensure the drops dont fall into the lava.
Specifically, when I'm mining obsidian over lava, I often find that the obsidian block will drop into the lava and appear to catch fire before I can pick it up. I presume the same would happen with mob drops.
How can you prevent the drops from being burned up by the fire blade? Or is it random enough that people simply do not worry about it?
I don't think there is a way to prevent them from going into the lava 100% of the time, with a simple lava blade grinder. It should be random enough though that you still get most of the drops.
IF the lava blade is one block above your water trough then you should be fine, per the youtube videos. You shouldn't have a problem with drops... except for wool. I've found that wool burns up (you lose those drops).
What you do need to watch out for is chickens and spiders- since they're only 1 block tall they can sneak under the lava blade.
EDIT: I searched youtube for "fire blade" and didn't find anything specific, so I'm kinda lost about what you're talking about... which isn't surprising.
