Once Creative mode is released, I can finally stop duplicating building materials -__- I planned making a giant battle royale map filled with hidden traps and rewards and Creative mode will make that infinitely easier to do now. Unlimited resources? Heck yeah!
You can do it in the PC version(it is actually easier to switch between the two in that version). If you are going to complain about us getting the option to switch between the two also, then you might as well go complain to Mojang and get them to change the PC version also.
This is the worst argument you could possibly attempt to make. this was just added on PC in either 1.2 or 1.3 and it's available via an option labeled CHEATS that can't be changed once you've created your world. I'm not defending either side, because once i start doing that i'll start getting pissed off and do something to get myself temp banned, I just thought i'd let you know exactly why your argument is invalid.
I totally agree, and stated my opinion of it in the other thread about this.
Not only would it cheapen Survival, it would be abused. For instance, it would make all these Adventure or PVP maps everyone is making virtually pointless. People would join the world, get chests full of diamond armor, weapons, food, etc. Basically they'd become almost immortal and invincible (and don't tell me they wouldn't).
Also the whole point of the (survival) game- the challenge of starting in a new world with nothing and prospering from your own hard work- would be gone.
But some people say that "We should be able to play the game however we want and do whatever we to!"
Not quite.
You can play the game however you want to- within the rules and confines of the game.
Why people look at Minecraft different than all the other games out there is beyond me.
I also don't buy the "I got no melons, so I'll just add some" excuse. That's part of the challenge of that world. Handle it.
and therefore as the ability to swap IS in the rules and confines of the game we are all good clearly.
I do not get how this option, which allows players to get future items into there old maps or simply build whatever they want how they want, hinders you playing a pure survival map?? There is no competetive multiplayer where this could be abused?

there is a mod on pc that i hear just about everyone using .... toomany items it allows u to be in survial mode yet still have the abbility to spawn any block in the game.. the question is weather or not u abuse this and im sure on the xbox version the host will be able to set if this function can be used or not so all the adventure maps would still be usefull

What could creative mode do to affect the leader boards...? And even if it did, who cares? Just about every game out there with 'leader boards' has people who cheated their way to the top. Switching between creative and survival isn't going to change anything cause I guarantee you there are already people cheating their way to the top of the Minecraft leader boards.
I personally don't see the problem here... it's an option, if someone wants to play the game this way then let them. Who cares if they 'abuse' the creative mode, I mean honestly... who is it affecting? Themselves? Wow, someone call the police... people want to play a game the way they want to.
u NO PLAY LYKE ME? PLAY LYKE ME PLAY OR U R ****! RAAAAAR!!!!
My fun for this game has been diminished by what OTHER people are doing. What you do when you're playing games when I'm not around TOTALLY AFFECTS ME GUYS! so stop. You guys are being SELFISH AND MEAN by not doing things exactly like I want you to.
4J! Stop giving us so many options! You think it's fun to be able decide how we wanna play the game? HOW STUPID R U? LOLOLOL!
TAKE AWAY THIS OPTION NOW SO THAT THE OTHER HALF OF THE COMMUNITY CAN ***** INSTEAD! I DEMAND IT!
People play the game the way THEY want to, so if you don't like it, all you have to do is hit the unfriend button.
Switching between survival and creative isn't a horrible idea or the best one. Switching gives people the ability to keep playing on their old worlds and make adventure maps and such. People wil play the game how they want to, if others don't like it, who says you have to play with them?
My question is, If I'm the host and I have it on survival are players in my lobby allowed to just switch to creative at will? Is there maybe a permission system like total miner?
I thoroughly enjoy how you stated your opinion and everyone's jumping on you, it's useless trying to argue with them.
Then why is the ability to do this on PC labeled as cheating?
Did the designers or did they not put the option in to the PC, the answer by the way of course being yes, therefore it is a valid option given by said designers.
Leaderboards?, Leaderboards? People are crying about creative-to-survival switching because it will supposedly jones with the leaderboards? Who cares!?!? My God, who even looks at those things anyway?
Geneo - the survival/creative switch is only empowered during world load. Therefore, only the world owner can do it and only when she/he is starting the system up. I tend to think of the survival/creative switch as a "gamemaster's perrogative." The only opportunity for "cheating" per se is if you had several separate maps running the same seed but on different machines (something like the 404 challenge, as I understand it). But frankly, that's a stupid setup anyway because it already relies on the honor of the players to play at the difficulty level specified. If you're so worried about people "cheating" by switching modes are you also worried about people switching difficulties?
TN55 - you keep bringing up the fact that in the PC, under SSP mode, ability to switch on the fly between survival and creative is enabled with cheats. So what? So are all the other server side commands (as I understand it) A: MCXBLA has no SSP mode, only SMP mode which has always had switch-on-the-fly for server OP's. B: MCXBLA is not getting switch-on-the-fly anyway, we are getting switch-on-load. Ergo, your comparison is invalid.
Finally, I really wish people would get over the idea that MC is a competitive game or that the value of accomplishments in the game ("accomplishment in the game" really? I mean really?) are cheapened by creative mode.
I totally agree, and stated my opinion of it in the other thread about this.

Nope.
The question is how you get something "really nice".
There's a huge difference in the appreciation and sense of accomplishment between someone giving you a million compared to someone earning a million.
No, what you do doesn't effect me- but I think it's wrong anyway.
1. No one but me knows whether or not MY game experience is or would be cheapened by switching between survival and creative modes. For me, changing things up is what usually enhances my experience and keeps me interested.
2. You (and several others) are speculating that it would be abused (by who - everyone who uses it?). Some people may abuse it, but some people also, it seems, take game survivalism to an abusive level... by repeatedly and arbitrarily calling people they don't know "cheaters."
3. Yes, games should be played within the rules, but please show me where there is a list of official rules for playing Minecraft in general. In fact, the Minecraft website specifically says: "Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine." It doesn't say that it's all about survival. That's your personal interpretation of a game that is stated as being designed expressly to be about anything you want it to be. I'm OK if you want to make your Minecraft worlds about survival; but don't keep telling me that all my Minecraft worlds have to be only about survival. Accept that not everyone shares your interpretation of what this game is about... and they have every right to make the game be about "anything you can imagine."
4. Regarding "sense of accomplishment" - Frankly, when I play a game I'm looking to relax and just have some fun. It's escapism and a way of filling in some of my free time. I get my sense of accomplishment from doing real world things that actually matter. How I place pixel pictures on a computer screen in a game just doesn't matter enough to me to give me a genuine sense of accomplishment nomatter how I go about moving other pixels around (my character) to obtain those pixels.
My question is, If I'm the host and I have it on survival are players in my lobby allowed to just switch to creative at will? Is there maybe a permission system like total miner?
Well they dont pick the difficulty setting or anything and its picked at the same time so, unlikely, from what we understand the map itself is set to one or the other when you load it.

You can't switch during the game. Only when you load the world. So if you load the world in survival, everyone who joins should automatically be in survival mode.

I would hope that only the host can choose.
I also hope that the host can choose to enter creative alone while others remain in survival, OR let everybody on the server enter creative. I think they'll probably forget about that, but I really hope they don't.

I am curious to know if you load in creative, if it puts everyone in creative, or just the host.

Also. If you don't like it, just don't to do it. Simple.
Nothing like beating a dead horse.

Retired StaffIt isn't, if you are playing a multiplayer server. Which is the same as every world on the Xbox 360, even if you are playing offline.

Retired StaffI've got to believe it put's everyone in creative. otherwise, why would they have chosen to program it to be chosen on load?
