When 1.8 comes out it's going to be awesome and I'll feel remotely closer to the PC version. But there are some flaws that make me not want to start a new map in 1.8 that 4J should fix.
First off villages generate but no villagers do, so when 1.2.5 comes you won't have any villagers.
Secondly nether fortresses won't be added until 1.2.5 so that means no nether wart in the nether which means no brewing positive potions.
Thirdly End portals don't generate in strongholds until 1.2.5 (actually in 1.9 but its being skipped) so when the End is added in the next update you'll have no way to get there.
Lastly snow biomes are removed due to technical reasons so you won't get any snow so no snow golems or whatever not that big a deal for the last one.
Also chests don't generate in strongholds so you won't get loot like diamonds and strongholds are just empty shells with no purpose.
The only fix that I see around this is that they add the new nether generation features which includes new blocks like nether brick and nether wart (which requires a new growing mechanic), new blaze mobs and blaze spawners (this would take more time), they would also have to add villagers, add in snow biomes early, add chests in strongholds (which would be simple) and lastly they would have to add an End portal they could probably half code it and finish the rest of the code in the next update.
If they did all this you wouldn't have to start a new world when 1.2.5 rolls around, and to be honest I'd rather wait a bit longer just get these features then to have a half broken map.
Don't believe me on this? check the wiki version history, this happened with PC but it was easy to get around because all you had to do was go farther away from your area, but since Xbox doesn't have infinite worlds we can't do that.
If you support this someone let 4J know
Also for those of you who don't know 4J will be updating to 1.8 then to 1.2.5 (check their twitter), and as you know it takes a while between updates, so lets not have a half broken map while we wait for the next update and then just have to delete it again.
And sorry if my post seems a bit whiny or like I'm complaining too much I'm really tired right now and my writing isn't at its best.
BTW The different colours represent the topic So red for nether, brown for villages, grey for snow biomes, blue for Stronghold chests and diamonds and green is important details that you shouldn't miss. So just in case you were wondering "what's with all the colours?"
Edit: Obviously there has been some confusion. I want to clearly state that I am only referring to these 3 map breaking features which I know were added later which is why I'm requesting they be added early so we don't end up with a broken world.
Any other terrain features after that are not map breaking because there are more ways to acquire the resources they include. So just to be 100% clear only these 3.
The 1.8 update won't stop me from continuing to build, but it'd be nice to have all the features sooner. Realistically, however, that won't happen. I'm happy to continue playing while they work on the update.

Current Project: Xbox 360 Edition TARDIS & Bowie Base 2 (based on the Waters of Mars)
I absolutely agree with you 100%. I'd rather wait longer for the terrain generation to be as up to date as possible than start a new world constantly. I put a ton of effort and unique ideas into the worlds I create, and it's rather disappointing to not have all of the terrain features. I will still enjoy my worlds, but the terrain features will always push me to newer worlds. This problem doesn't exist on the PC version because the worlds are infinite and you can just travel farther away to generate new terrain features. I actually like this idea because it promotes building in several different areas that can be connected instead of just one main area.
I honestly think that since 4J knew the Xbox 360 Edition worlds would be finite, they should have caught up to the PC version in terms of terrain generation as a top priority instead of simply repeating the PC updates on the Xbox 360 Edition for the most part. I am not in charge though, so I have to assume that 4J realizes this and they are doing what is best. I want 4J to see this thread nonetheless.
I tend to start a new world with friends all the time anyway. We survive and build for a bit, then start a whole new world and start all over again. We still have our main world we goof around in but for the most part I think its fun starting from scratch every once in a while to survive all over again.
So by that same logic, there is really no point in owning the game right now if I would have to restart whenever a new terrain feature comes out. What's that? Emeralds in 1.3? No point in playing this game until they are released in this version.
Also, just so you know, we are going to 1.2.3, not 1.2.5 (check their twitter, as you put it).
Besides, for all we know, they could increase world size by the time we get 1.2.3, allowing us to get the new features without having to start a new world. And the stuff you are complaining about us not getting in 1.8.2, we don't know what they plan to bring forward. No use worrying about it if the whole argument might end up pointless. I could see them adding End portals early, even if they don't work. As for villagers, you can spawn a few in, in creative mode if it is really that big of a deal. Same goes for nether wart.

I'm saying this for people who actually like to keep one world for a long time and there are multiple ways to obtain emeralds so that's not an issue. What I'm talking about is objects that are only obtainable one way, through terrain generation. And good point on the creative mode thing but we still don't know whether we'll be able to switch between creative and survival on one world, unless it's been announced.
Someone posted this in the last update and its getting boring. I didnt have to start a new world last time and I wont believe it until I have too, quit moaning and just enjoy the game
Last update there was no new terrain generation but there is in 1.8 and 1.2.5 therefore you will need to start a new world to access the new features like the End dimension, Blaze spawners (for exp farms) and Brewing potions which is a major mechanic in the game.

I was talking about emerald ore. My point still stands. No point in starting a new world when we get 1.2.3 when you will need to wait until 1.3 for jungle temples, or desert villages. You can also say the same right now, as I stated above. No point in buying the game if you would have to make a new world for 1.8.2, but wait, you shouldn't make a new world until 1.2.3, but wait you shouldn't make a world until 1.3, but wait, etc. The point is as the game stands right now, you will always have to make a new world to get the new features.
Not to mention the fact that even if you do wait, you might not get the stuff from the last update anyway, so you just wasted your time for nothing and you wouldn't even get to experience what the update offered. Like it would be pointless to wait for villagers, if you start a new world in 1.2.3 and don't even get a village in your world.

You will have to start a new world to get the new terrain generation features forever, but if they started on getting the terrain generation features up to date from the beginning, it would be less of a problem. There's no telling where we would be, but odds are we would at least be very close to the PC version in terms of terrain generation. It would just mean less starting a new world overall. This applies for only terrain generation features though, so it's not like there's no point in buying the game. People will continue to buy and enjoy the game, but it would have been much better if we didn't have to restart just to get those features. I'm sure the old worlds would still be enjoyed, but the terrain generation features will push people to the newer worlds.
Although the title of this topic is "There's no point in starting a new world in 1.8 because you'll just have to start a new one when 1.2.5 comes out.", I don't believe that is meant to be taken literally. I think it's just used to express the frustration of starting a new world for every terrain generation update. Of course I could be wrong, and I don't want to put words in the author's mouth, so I'll let the author clarify what is meant by the topic title.

I'm not going to ***** about every little terrain feature that comes about, for example there are multiple ways to obtain emeralds, everything in jungle and desert temples is obtainable by other means, I'm simply just pointing out these 3 things that will break your map for the next update, for example there is only 1 way to obtain nether wart, through a nether fortress and only one way to get to the end, through an end portal.

All of those things you mentioned weren't added in 1.8.2 so of course we aren't going to have them yet. PC players had to deal with the same thing.
Most people aren't even going to start new worlds for 1.8.2 anyways. That means all of their worlds are going to be broken because they won't have any of the new terrain or structures from 1.8.2.
Personally I don't know why they didn't release the game until it was at the current level on the PC anyway (if that really is the plan). It's not as though they didn't have the programming template to do so. They already had most of the features in place on the PC when they released it for the Xbox. I'd love to know what the reasoning was behind releasing the "bare-bones" version of MC when they could have done it properly right out of the starting gate.
Hell, if it would have cost me an extra $20 above the current price, I would have still bought the game if it was the fully updated version. This whole "step backward, move forward" mentality in this release boggles my mind.

The only gamebreaking thing would be End portals. The other stuff (nether wart, villagers), like I said above, can be added with creative mode. You can even add the End portal blocks in a later update(though I don't know if they can be used to activate an End portal). There is no way to obtain emerald ORE without it generating in the terrain. You might not think it is a big deal, but I think it is a cool block. As for jungle temples, that is the only way to obtain chiseled bricks.

we can add it with creative, IF you can switch between game modes but its will be reassuring if you can, then I won't have to worry about this except the end like you said. Also you can get emeralds from villager trades as well as underground in a later update so I'm not worried about that and for chiseled stone brick I think you can use a block transmuter which is a glitch. also the portal is available later and can be activated buts that's in 1.3 and we don't even know if 4J will go past 1.2.3
Hey, guess what. If they go to 1.3.2 after 1.2.3, you're gonna have to start another new world!

You can switch between game modes. 4J has confirmed it. You can choose what mode to start in everytime you load up your world. And I wasn't talking about emeralds, I was talking about emerald ORE. And yes, you can use a block transmuter, but I was talking about how to get it legitimately. 4J has said they will be updating to 1.2.3 and beyond, they just haven't said what the specific version will be after 1.2.3.
Minecraft is like anything else in the way of electronics. It comes out and then at some point down the road, there's an innovation that makes it completely obsolete. If my employer wasn't willing to "start over" in the tech area from time to time, I'd still be trying to get my job done on an electric typewriter.
Minecraft PC is still undergoing updates and at any point, those updates could impact the game in such a way that starting a new world would become necessary there. Do you alao think then that there is no point in starting a new world in the PC version until you know the future of it till the end of time?
The only difference here is that we have some idea that updates are coming and that they may be coming quite soon (actually, we're sort of all hoping they come soon). This has increased speculation, but no one really knows what's going to happen yet. We know that 4J have an option of bringing some features forward from later updates and we still don't know all the details of this very next update, let alone the one after it. They've been very open and forthcoming with us, but whose to say they're not holding back a few pleasant surprises.
While you wallow in your pessimism, I think I'll continue to play the great game I have going on today and happily start a new world when 1.8.2 comes out... and again when 1.2.3 comes out if necessary. Sometimes a change up in worlds is as good as a break anyway... keeps it from getting boring.
Well, first, your poll is one of the most biased polls i've ever seen in my entire life. If i want the update asap i'll be forced to say i want a "half broken world" when i dont consider it that at all because i'm not a pessimist, like you.
Second, did you even consider the fact that they're not 100% following the PC updates? They're bringing some things forward from later updates. They could bring villagers forward, they could bring end portals forward, they could bring anything they damn well want forward. So chill.
