Well not sure where to put this but I'll start here. For a while now my xbox has been having issues connecting to xbox live; when I run the test it connects to everything else but xbox live. A couple days later it will finally connect to live but when it does I can't join any parties or minecraft servers...any ideas? Thanks for any help in advance.
you're having trouble with connecting to xbox live, so you come to the minecraft forums? Go to the Xbox forums, call tech support, call your ISP, call microsoft. Talk to someone who is involved in providing Xbox live and/or your internet, because minecraft has nothing to do with not being able to connect to xbox live.

Are you running through a router? If so unplug it from the power and let it sit unplugged for a good minute or two. Plug everything back in and see if that helps. If not do the same thing but this time the modem. If you are using wifi try (if possible) plugging into a hardline to the modem and see if that makes a difference. If it does your router may be bad.
