The rules of hostile mob spawning in 144 block radius is that something confirmed? or do we just believe that because thats the rule for the pc version?
If that is the rule for PC version wouldn't it make more sense that the radius for xbox version be smaller? (given that xbox world is smaller)
To clarify, I would like to know if the 144 block radius for hostile mob spawning for xbox is confirmed by 4j or is it just something we've assumed since it is that for pc.
(I hope this question makes sense to readers because I know what I'm trying to ask in my head, I just can't seem to articulate the question. As I read this post, It looks unclear to me.)
I don't know for sure, however I don't believe the size of the world necessarily needs to dictate the spawn radius. If you had an infinite world or limited world the same amount of mobs would spawn. The only thing that would change is you could find yourself with no where to run if you get boxed into the corner of the map... but hell that happens to me in caves all the time lol.
I'm with Gizmo on this one. I don't think you would want to change that distance. It seems like the way it works now the spawning is pretty natural in that mobs tend to have enough space to spanw ahead of you when you are moving as if they where always just sitting there waiting for you. If the distance was shortened up it doesn't seem like it would be as smooth.
what the hell is the green part lol there's no explanation for it
I can see explanations for all the areas in the pic o.O
0-16 safe !!
16-24 dungeon spawners are activated
24-32 mobs spawn (the sweet spot)
32-128 mobs spawn and despawn randomly (i dont think they stay still in this current version)
128+ instantly despawn
anyway FayzedNZ posted this, not sure if its from the pc version and ppl presume we have the same spawns on the 360 ?
I love this picture. I have always explained it as a donut on a dinner plate, and this is the perfect visual. Mobs won't spawn in the donut hole, which is a sphere with a 24 block radius. They will spawn on the donut, which is a sphere with a 72 block radius (a 144 block diameter, to correct above posters), and they will not spawn on the plate, which is everything outside of the 72 block radius.

they spawn from 24-128.. so how does that work out with your 72 block radius from the player.
I realize they 144. (17 chunks loaded around the player of possible spawns) a chunk being 16x16 but everything after 128 instantly despawns so it kinda voids that. The 144 is a square.

No, learn to read. 0-16 is when spawners activate, then it has nothing from 16-24, then 24-32 is random spawning, etc.
the chart has no explanation of what happens from 16-24, the green.
But... that would be a 32 meter radius. It seems you added the distances together for whatever reason.
1 block = 1 meter. Radius = 1/2 diameter.
Mobs will not spawn within a 24 block radius of you. That is a circle that has a diameter of 48 blocks. (For the above poster that mentioned the chunk thing, I know it's by chunk, so it's a really blocky circle) They will spawn within a 72 block radius of you, just not in the 24 block radius. That would be a circle with a diameter of 144 blocks. They will despawn if they are outside of 128 blocks from you. That is a circle with a 256 block diameter.

I don't get what is so hard about this.
They also despawn outside of 32 meters, just not instantly. According to the chart, the only time they will spawn and not despawn is between 24 and 32 meters. I'm just not seeing where you're getting 72. Is that something from the Wiki or some other site?

They spawn within 128 block radius of you, not 72.
What the wiki says now, which applies to the current spawning system for the PC version is this:
Mobs spawn naturally within a 15x15 chunk (240x240 block) area around the player. When there are multiple players, mobs can spawn within this distance of any of them. However, mobs that move farther than 128 blocks from any player will immediately despawn (see Despawning), so the mob spawning area is effectively limited to spheres with a radius of 128 blocks, centered at each player.
But this is for the spawning system that came out with (I think) the 1.9 release, which also has mobs that are outside of a certain radius stand perfectly still. The 72 block radius was used before this, which is the version we are currently on. This may change with the 1.8 update, and will definitely change for the 1.2 update.

Are you sure? Because I just found a thread for the PC version talking about Beta(yes, Beta) 1.2, and they talk about 128 being the limit. As it is right now, mobs do stop moving outside of the 32 block radius.

Yes there is, the green is marked as 24m. That's the most accurate representation of the mob spawning I've seen so far.

Retired StaffThis. I would assume nothing spawns in the 16 - 24 range. That or the mob instantly de-spawns.

Retired StaffIt would be safe to assume 16-24 no mobs spawn seen as mobs can only spawn 24 blocks away from the player
The 72 block radius is where they *will* spawn. The 128 block radius is where they will *despawn*.
This thread bores me.
