This doesn't really solve the problem. I don't want be bring items in a new world, I want everything I build, and I want to have access to all the new features in the same world. Not to mention this "solution" wouldn't really work with multiplayer.
Because people want to experience everything the game has to offer without having to restart their world with each update. Ignoring "limited" (I don't really feel they are that limited) resources, or building space, there are some worlds that just don't spawn with stuff. Don't get reeds in your world? Forget about enchanting. Don't get cacti? Forget about green dye. Don't get pumpkins or melons? Oh well, guess you can start over. Want a village in your world? Too bad. Wait, you have a village, but now villagers are added? Gonna have to restart to get them. Whereas in the PC version, it is as simple as exploring a new area to get all the new features and items.
Let me get this straight.
You go from world to world, in a boat, and call that having "infinite worlds" (good thing you put that in quotes!).
What difference does it make if you in a boat or not? Your character still ends up in the other world without your other world's inventory. That's different than what happens normally? You could have a dozen worlds and switch back and forth between them... and say "My "world" is 12X bigger than yours!".
Hummm, don't think that qualifies as a "infinite world".
But if they changed the program so you could keep your inventory when moving between worlds then it would work... kinda... sorta.
There's always that big "IF" in these ideas....
has anyone actually mined all the resource or used every square up building ??
and castleminer + Z have big issues cause of there infinite map size, stupid loading screens, big sectors missing from ppls worlds, plus there worlds arnt constantly changing like in minecraft
id rather keep it as it is cause it works
Because small maps suck and no I haven't mined every available resource or built on every block on my map but I like to explore and after about 5 minutes of walking my map is already filled out. I want to be able to explore far away territories w/out feeling limited by a 860x80 map. I mean c'mon, that pretty much sucks. I'm not looking for infinite worlds(even PC doesn't have infinite worlds) I just want something bigger than we have now and I don't see what the problem is w/wanting that and people voicing their opinions on it. It is a pretty big issue for most players
yeah i wouldnt really likje it like this. i'd prefer just 1 big world because how can i build a full world city when part of it has to load? haha. . . creative idea though.

While there are good arguments for bigger worlds i considers these irrelevant, all of these issues are likely to be solved with creative mode.. and btw, there would be no difference for me if i have to start a new world for a feature or walk kilometers from my homebase to find it .. so i actually prefer the creative mode solution for adding new features to old maps
While I disagree that all of the issues (like that of mashing in new biomes and climate changes) would be solved with creative mode, I do agree that it is actually more convenient to start a new world than to walk kilometers from a homebase to find what amounts to infinite resources (especially while at the same time complaining about people who don't want to play the game in "survival" mode. Pretty easy to survive when all you have to do to get a complete restock of raw ores is to walk a little ways.
The real world is not infinite. For the population is currently supports, it's actually pretty darn small. Real world resources are not infinite. I actually like that the Minecraft 360 world is also not infinite - to me it just makes more logical sense.
That said - Yes, I'd like it to be a little bigger than it is now. It's an OK size for what's in it right now (especially for a single player); but if it's going to accommodate new biomes like jungles and swamps, I think it might start to feel like I'm changing biomes every few blocks; and I don't really like changing climates in the middle of a building or village, if I can help it.
For that reason, I actually hope that the update doesn't add much of anything into my existing world. I don't want places where I have already future building ideas to suddenly change climate or terrain. I think creative mode will be a good solution to adding individual items into my world where I'll at least have some control over where I place them in my world. To get the new terrain and strongholds and villages, I'm perfectly prepared to start a new world and alternate my play between the two worlds.
Creating and exploring a new world allows me to change my mental gears whe making up my development plans. A clean slate makes the game seem fresh and, therefore, keeps me more interested in it.
CastleMiner Z had a good infinite world, took until the 100,000 or something before the biomes started getting messy, I could see Minecraft xbox putting in a similar thing however they'd perhaps have to lower the player count to 4 players, to fix that they could just have a simple option of being able to have a limit of how many players can play at once.
Except Castle Miner Z had Horrible lag because of that, even worse on multiplayer

I already find changing biomes every few blocks in my world even with the current terrain generation.
the most easy way to spot them is to go for a walk in the rain and note where desert biomes intrude (because it does rain in the desert). I've got several areas where my desert is only 20-30 blocks wide and then it cuts back to plains.

I know it happens a bit even now; not because the world is so small that it can't fit the current biomes in it; but because some seeds organize the biomes poorly. I guess I'm lucky - For the most part my world has fairly large biomes that transition nicely into one another. I do have one little patch of snow separated from a snow biome by a desert sand spit. I've discovered that placing a chest does eliminate snow collecting on a block even after the chest is removed. It rains over that block instead (someone posted about a bug with this, so I gave it a try; and it seems to work.). Now, I think I just need to get out there and place and mine a chest on each block of that snowy patch to get rid of it for good. I just haven't got around to it yet. Of course, it won't turn it to desert; but it will connect it to the grassy plain my home base sits on (where it doesn't snow).
I do think, though, with the addition of more biomes, such mashing of biomes within small areas upon world generation is going to be almost unavoidable... let alone the issues of old and new terrain colliding in older worlds where updating of some of the terrain may occur.

Yeah, but you can't add terrain features without wasting tons of hours of terraforming. Such as ravines, abandoned mineshafts, villages, strongholds, nether fortresses, new biomes, etc. True, you can add the new items to your world, but that is not the only thing that is new in the updates. And for me, there is a difference between starting a new world to get the stuff, or finding it in the same world by exploring further. Not only would I be avoiding exiting the game to go to my "extended world", but it would also be too much of a hassle switching between worlds with multiplayer.
And maybe sharkbaztard should read all the other people who have had the same idea before him......
As to why I would like a bigger world, I play mainly with 7 other people at the same time. I like exploring. 30mins you have explored the current map, the other players dont want to rebuild their epic buildings in new maps, so I have to put up with not really enjoying the game for what I like about it to be with my friends.
hey im InboardPG and I dont like when other people give out ideas, bc mine are the best and most amazing and ideas are terrible, they hurt other minecrafters feelings, including mine... oh wait? maybe sharkbaztard was just simply giving out an idea? hmm
Oh god the spelling mistakes. This idea is bad because it is basically cheating. Imagine bringing diamonds to a new world. There is no point in survival if you could just bring diamonds from your friends world into your own. I could understand some people that won't get it. But it annoys me.
Well I dont know why we cant already bring things from one map to another. It should already have been added and I hope it does later on. Also, if you are concerned with people stealing your stuff dont let anyone else on your map or only put people you trust on there. I only have my best friend and cousin and we do just fine.
