The next update includes strongholds mooshroom islands nether fortresses and don't forget npc villages .its gonna be dam near impossible for u to see all of these in a single map given the size , unlike how PC version generates practically infinitely. So unless 4j codes it in so that each map generates with all of it its really gonna make it hard to have a good experience in a single map
No nether fortress=no nether warts for potions
No stronghold =no end portal to fight boss
no mushroom island = no mycelium or mooshroom cows
No npc villages= forget the possibility of trading or having villagers period
I suggest asking 4j over twitter on how they plan to overcome this.the more the people ask the more likely we can get a response. This is extremely important. U may not realize it but everyone of these are key fundementals that make the game great.. what do u think will happen. Personally I hope they are smart enough to code it in so new maps generate with it all.. just hopes in the end
You're assuming that any given xbox world will have everything crammed in it. That may not be the case.
Jungles in some worlds, but not in others.
NPC villages ins some, but not in others.
We don't know- we'll just have to see how it works out, huh?
indeed as neither were 1.8 to my knowledge, the new biome in particular unless I am mistaken is Swamp
Nether Fortresses weren't added until Beta 1.9. Swamps were added in 1.8 but for some reason, people think Jungles were as well. Unfortunately, Jungles weren't added until 1.2 on the PC.
A lot of people need to do some research before assuming certain things were in an update lol That would save so much space on this forum.
The only thing I expect would be guaranteed for each world would be a stronghold, with (hopefully always intact) end portal. Other than that, I expect my worlds to be missing a lot of stuff.
yes lol pc doesnt have infinite sized XD. and yes infinite world is possible, it would just take a few terabites
Hard drive space isn't an issue. There is actually a limit to the size of usable worlds. Once you go out far enough The game stops rendering solid chunks. This is a game issue, not a save space issue.

How is it possible? Do you know a way to compress an infinite amount of data down to a few terabytes? If you do I would like to speak with you about a business venture where I'm rather certain we can secure a government contract. ( I'm just razzing ya :] )
On Topic: I am concerned that, while all of these features are not likely to be added in one update, this could definitely be an issue down the line once all of the listed features are added. It is not needed that the maps be pseudo infinite, they can just be a bit larger. If the world remained the same hight but the X and Z were increased to about 1.4 times their current size the world would be twice as big (so would the save file) which should be sufficient in size. I think a solution along these lines is the best area to explore.

the game stops rendering chunks to stay within the save file size limit microsoft places on arcade games, which i believe is what he meant by save space
we just have to wait and see how 4j handles it. I'm sure they've taken all this into consideration while transitioning this update. I doubt they will just put it out and see what happens its pretty much a waiting to see. I have faith that 4j will make it work.

I was referring to the PC version, which is what the person I was quoting was talking about.

Okay, the pc maps are not infinite and it actually IS a memory issue and not a "programming" issue. Once you get to where the coordinate of the chunk reaches a certain value you start to get "overflow" in the floating point calculations. This causes the output values of the calculations to be wrong and the world generates in unintended ways. Behavior of blocks that depend on coordinates will also start to go "off" as you approach the same large values. The same thing would happen on the xbox even if the memory issues were sorted to bring it on par with the pc. We will never have infinite maps. Why is that hard to understand? Computer science aside it's infinite! Just pause and think on that for a moment.
We should be more in line with the idea of the OP. That is to say that the maps should be large enough to facilitate all of the game features. What do you need with infinity anyway?
*edit: look up "far lands" to see what I'm talking about. They don't generate that way anymore but it gives a good visual to what can happen with overflow in world generation

That is something else I don't get either. Do people think 4J doesn't realize any of this? It's their job to know all of these things and I'm pretty sure they do.
Like they've said endless amounts of time, the updates are their main concern and focus right now. So everyone wanting bigger worlds and all of these other things will just have to wait.

1. Memory does not equal hard drive space. 2. It is a memory overflow caused by the game. Not by lack of memory on your computer. That is why it is always at the same co-ordinates. It is caused by the game. And once again, the usable area of the world is not infinite.

It's a bit off topic if we just start talking programming but message me if you want to pick this up more. Cheers.
I have a feeling they're going to tweak the generation rates of everything so that they're more common. Well, common in the PC version (If it were put into effect on there) but uncommon for the Xbox, but still there.

Infinite worlds is impossible, even the PC doesnt have infinite sized.

Retired Staffyes lol pc doesnt have infinite sized XD. and yes infinite world is possible, it would just take a few terabites
as each subsequent chunk requires recording, however small the amount, an infinite sized map would require infinite data storage.
Well, it sucks that it's going to be really crammed, but once the update comes out, I'll load seed after seed until I get everything.
