so i built a slime farm using a YouTube tutorial. I then switched to easy mode and went back down to find one big slime. i tried to kill it with a wooden sword but it didn't split. After that happened i went back up and waited about half an hour while i was doing some other things. I went back down and have not had a slime spawn since.
You more than likely have caves in the area somewhere. Lighting these up will eliminate other hostile mobs from spawning which will increase slime spawns
I find its important to hit them with your fists. I get great results. Just channel your inner Mike Tyson Also you have to move at least 24 blocks away and wait 10 mins before more will spawn.
Yes, the skeleton spawner will hamper the slime from spawning so long as it isn't lit up. If you've disabled it with torches, then it won't affect the slime farm. Make sure to light up any tunnels in the vicinity, as well.
Using any tool to break apart slime will subsequently kill it, rendering you no slime whatsoever.
Good luck!

Current Project: Xbox 360 Edition TARDIS & Bowie Base 2 (based on the Waters of Mars)
what is going on?
Also, in the Xbox version, if you kill it with a sword or anything made out of diamond, it will not split
