So I decided to start a new seed and I gotten really lucky with 3 surface dungeons. A zombie and skeleton one were next to each other underwater so I took out the water there and then I found a spider spawner just a bit further away exposed inside a mountain.
I already know how to make a zombie/skeleton trap(I plan on making it an XP farm so when the 1.8 Adventure update comes out , I have two exp farms ready) The trouble I'm having is making a Spider Spawner Trap. I want to make it possible for a one hit kill but after they drop, they ceither climb back up and kill themselves or can escape from the one black used to one hit kill them. Any ideas on how to stop this?
I was planning on doing the traditional water flowing into a 2x2 hole to make them fall 21 blocks in order to do a 1-2 punch kill from a safe one block opening. The problem with spiders; however, is that they can climb walls. Even if they decide not to climb up again, they can fit through the 2x1 block where I can punch em.
EDIT: I want it to be able to become another XP farm. The skeleton and zombie spawner I have I plan on making a base underground to where the zombies and skeletons drop down so when the adventure update comes, I have a 2 good xp farms. My spider spawn is right on the surface. If I ever leave my underground base, I want to be able to have a close XP farm next to my base above ground that's near the spider spawner.
Just use cactus! Use water to push them into the cactus. Just be sure to make another water stream that gathers the loot.
I know how to make the cactus trap. What I'm saying is I want to make it an XP farm. I'm planning to build 2 bases. One underground where it has the drop off point of my skeletons and zombies since they are next to each other. The other is above ground next to the Spider Spawner. I know it's a bit odd planning ahead for the 1.8 update but I just like to be prepared(If you don't already know, you have to kill the monster yourself to get XP orbs)
EDIT: @advertkid I literally barely spawned the seed a few hours ago. You can help me make the XP farm if you wanna see the process of making it.
I heard adding soul sand around the walls of the drop will prevent spiders from climbing and makes them take the one-hit kill damage.
Can anyone confirm this?
Wouldn't they take no damage if they luckily fall on the water source block?
They will still get damage depending how far they fall in 1 deep water. If you are worried about hitting water source blocks just place them 1 in a wall..

I have a spider trap but mine drowns the spiders so I don't know if I'd be any helpful.
