LISTEN 4J !!!!!! Make the skins free or give us a skin creator for like 1600 or something. You guys a ripping everyone off, by making us pay for skins that we could make for free. You guys sold over a million copies of MCXBOX360. I would pay for texture packs but skins c'mon they ARE FREE on PC and just let us make are own.
They are free on the PC because they were made by the community. As for a skin editor, don't expect it. Besides the fact they could be held responsible for the copyright infringement because they would be providing an official skin editor, it would also make making skin packs pointless, as no one would buy them if they could just make any skin that was in a skin pack. Besides, they aren't that expensive, we get free skins with each pack, and you don't have to buy them to play the game.

wow my whole point is they don't need the money from the skins. So give us a skin creator and there would not be copyright if they where free & we made them!

Actually, contrary to popular belief, yes they do need money for the skin packs. It was somebody's job to make them all, and you better believe they deserve a paycheck for their work. It's not like people who make skins on the computer, where it's a hobby they do out of passion in their spare time. Making skin packs is someone's 9 to 5 here.
And yes, copyright infringement issues absolutely could aarise from a skin editor. this argument has been done to death.
Damien's post was the only complete and correct answer you need, really.

It costs them money to put out free updates. Once again, they would be responsible for the skins people make, because they would be giving an official skin editor. Mojang isn't responsible because they don't provide a skin editor for the PC version, they are all community made.

They do need the money actually. 4J doesn't make as much money from the sales as people think. Every time they put out an update, it costs them $40,000.

It costs $40,000 for title updates. That is just how it is. There was actually another company confirming the amount recently, because they couldn't afford it to update their game. While Minecraft did negotiate their contract to get some updates for free, eventually those will run out, and they will need some sort of money coming in to cover those costs, so that the updates will still be free for us.
Couldn't you make texture packs for free too? I haven't been playing MC for long but from what I understand many of the texture packs are user created. Doesn't really make much sense that you would pay for those but not for skins. For the $20 you are willing to spend on a skin creator, you could buy somewhere around 450 skins through the packs they release. I don't know about you but I rarely change my skin and am fine with the free ones that are in each pack as of now. I won't mind spending $2 once or twice if I really what I see.
It's not just copyright infringement. Notice how all the signs you put up in MCXBLA have to get "approved"? They're going through Microsoft's algorithm looking for "dirty words". Skins would have to be approved by Microsoft as well (especially on a game rated 10+), and that would have to be done visually, by a real live human being, who gets a real live paycheck. There are what, 2.5 million players now? If just 5% of them bought the skin editor, and each one did an average of 5 skins, that's 625,000 skins waiting for approval. You'd either have to pay a veritable army of staff to do it, or players would be waiting for weeks or MONTHS to get their skins "cleared" by the Microsoft censors.
Face it... with the maturity level of a lot of the players, you'd have countless pre-teens running around with boobs hanging out, dicks on their foreheads, god knows what else...
And what is this constant clamor for "free"? Nothing in life is free... deal with it. If you're not paying for it with money, you're paying with something else. When someone tells me something is "free", the first question I have is: How much will it cost to get rid of it?
i dont understand how there could be copyright infringement if they brought out a skin editor, if your paying for that editor wheres the problem ? :/
Simple. Someone makes a "Batman: The Dark Knight" skin. The owners of that copyright object to it. Since the 9 year old who did it isn't worth suing, they go after the people who facilitated it (the ones with 'deep pockets' in lawyer-ese)... 4J & possibly Microsoft.
This is why, even if 4J wanted to do it, Microsoft will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever allow it..... ESPECIALLY not for "free".
i dont believe that for 1 minute !!
how about forza ? thats a 3, yet we have the ability to draw what the hell we like, they dont check all drawings, they wait for someone to complain about them, also i could build a giant penis in my world, nobody checks that either, so i dont think what you said is right....sorry

I think it's fair that cost the skins.
I have a question
_ Apple WILL COME OUT in the Update 1.8?
O/P you must not be very good at math... there are what, somewhere around 6 packs coming out? I can't remember exactly how many were confirmed but still, at 160msp a piece that's 960msp. You say 4J doesn't need the money yet you are willing to shell out another 20 bucks for a skin editor instead of buying all the skins for a little over half the price?
so what stops me from building a Batman: Dark Knight model ingame ? theres no real difference
Here is what 4J has said about it: https://twitter.com/4JStudios/status/221555376393420800
True, there doesn't really seem to be a difference between building a statue or making a skin, but I am sure 4J knows what they are talking about, and there is really no reason to poke a hornet's nest, especially one that can cost you lots of money, when they already have a decent enough work-around in place, with the skin packs.

Nothing is stopping you and that is the problem. PC Minecraft is not liable for copyright because they do not host the servers, worlds, etc themselves and avoid a vast majority of the problems involved BUT with the xbox version, an official skin editor would be 4J directly allowing the infringement of copyrights by others and unless they constantly monitored all the skins, they could get sued by everyone.
I wouldn't be surprised if in the future PC Minecraft starts to regulate things like that just because the possibility of being sued is always out there and the more money they make, the more likely a chance to sue them looks more exciting. Its scary stuff running a sandbox game.

The difference is that the copyright owners aren't going to go after you... you're not worth it, and most kids are not going to go through the trouble of building a whole statue...
A skin, on the other hand, is really easy. When the next big action movie comes out and EVERYONE looks like the title character, heads are going to turn. Lawyers heads. Towards the people who "made it happen"... especially if they made money on it. And, since all these skins have to be approved (costing money to hire the people to do that), either a) Such skins get disallowed, pissing off everyone, or b ) such skins get approved, and 4J & Microsoft get slapped with a megabucks lawsuit.
If you don't want to pay for the skins on XBOX for $10 TOTAL, then go update your computer for $500 and play the PC version. Then you won't also have to worry about how long it's taking for 4J to catch up to the PC version. And you can design skins till your heart stops beating.
I'll just keep mining because I really could care less about skins for my player. I don't play online, so who will see them other than me?? My kids are more interested than me, which probably explains why so many people are upset they cost money.
