Ok, so I just started playing minecraft for xbox about 2 weeks ago. I was able to play 2 players with my daughter split screen up until about 3 days ago. now when I try to do 2 player split screen it doesn't work? I've tried unplugging the hdmi cables plugging them back in, unplugging the xbox restarting the console. reseting the minecraft settings to default. and still nothing, its like it don't even recognize the second remote anymore. unlike before as soon as you power the 2nd remote on it gives you a little message in the middle of the screen "Press start to join"
yeah i've tried with the 2nd controller first but not offline mode cause i usually play with my buddies and my daughter is only 5 so whenever i'm playing and she wants to play with me the split screen was a perfect way to keep her content. now i no longer have that option i just dont understand how it stopped working for no reason

I don't understand what could be the problem?
Rather than just resetting to the defaults, check the "Help and Options" menu and then go under "Settings" and then "Options." There is a toggle for "2-player splitscreen vertical" that is normally unchecked. Try checking it to see if that resolves your issue. Also check the "Control" menu to see of the sensitivities have been arbitrarily set to 0% (this is a known bug that randomly happens, it also affects the graphics settings from time to time).
Going back to the "Help and Options" menu, check the "Controls" menu there to see if something has changed your Control Layout setting (I've also had this randomly change once or twice).
IF none of that works, perhaps some of your main XBox settings have been changed... say, by another game downloaded since. This one is just a theory, since I don't really mess with those without consulting my son (it's actually his old XBox).
Try resyncing the controller Bro. Or borrow a friend's and see if that works. Might be something unrelated to the game or connect the controller before you start the game. Hope you get it working.
Someone above suggested looking at your HDMI settings on your actual console. I had to do that to play split screen with a friend. My console is set at 480p normally but I had to bump it up to 720i or higher for it to actually do split screen.
That cleared up the issue for me right away, now I know to switch it up when I want to play with someone just change your HDMI settings and you can pop in another player like normal then.
