Okay so I mined out this huge area that took me roughly 5 hours to find some slime balls, and today, I finally found one, so I attacked it with my sword, and it didn;t split apart; it just disappeared. Help???
Use your fist or arrows. Hitting them with other things will cause overflow damage, and will kill the slime instead of letting it split into smaller parts. This will be fixed in a later update so that you can use weapons on them.
Did you use the slime finder tool to find the slime chunk in your world? Or did you just randomly mine a huge area? Just asking because 5 hours seems like a long time for only 1 slime to spawn. I used the tool and between 2 trips where I waited about 20 minutes each time, I came away with killing 63 slimes and getting 50 slimeballs.
This link will take you to the post in these forums for the slime finder. Just go to the website in his post and follow the instructions.
Basically what happens is you put in your world seed (which can be found on the screen after selecting your saved game). It gives you the coordinates of two opposite corners of a slime chunk (a chunk is a 16x16 section of blocks). Slimes will spawn within this 16 block square. They only spawn on the bottom 16 or so layers of the map so you want to make this chunk near bedrock and at least 3 blocks high. Fill it with torches/glowstone. You need to be at least 24-25 blocks away for any mob to spawn but no further than 50 blocks away. Wait at least 10-15 minutes and come back and there should be slimes in there.
