I am a bit worried the new xbox will be coming soon. Though this will be a couple years, I am still kind of concerned about it. I mean, they put so much into the 360 version and to just remake everything they had worked so hard for on the 360 version like skin packs and updates, just seems kind of a waste to me.
And we don't even know about this new xbox. Are they going to allow mods? What about user created skins? Will this version be fully updated? God, who knows.
A bit off topic here, but has anybody heard of this new system coming out called the OUYA? There was a video I had saw of where a man was scrolling through the main menu/ dashboard type of thing and one of his applications were Minecraft. Ok, now this made me think, another minecraft on another system?
Lets all hope the big guys (Microsoft, 4J) know what they're doing. And if it will "satisfy the consumers" in buissness terms.
let me tell u what happens when xbox 720, we will sell our 360s with the cds cuz cds wont work, downloaded contents? we will download our profile and with that we can download games we had. maybe there will be a very large update for minecraft with that, like infinite world.
I don't know about a new Minecraft, but I can almost guarantee modding will never be allowed on a Microsoft console. It's always been against ToS, but Microsoft has only became more strict about this over time. On the original Xbox, if you were caught modding online you would be banned from ranked matches, that was it. Now if you're caught you can't even take your console online anymore.
No point in worrying about a console that hasn't officially been announced yet. Shouldn't get worked up when we don't even know the official name of what it will be. I am sure they will have some plan of what to do with downloaded games. As for Ouya, my guess is what you saw was the pocket edition app. I think ouya is based on the android platform, which would mean it could run android games.

I agree, the new xbox should definitely have some more computing strength than the 360

You really think they would just stop making consoles? I believe there is some leaked information about it somewhere, but that's not my point. The point is we are wondering how things will be downloaded/ implemented.

Yes we will have another Xbox. I am just saying there is no point in worrying about it when it hasn't even been officially announced. I don't see them making a new Minecraft just for the next Xbox, unless it is a few years down the line after the console launches. Until then, I am pretty sure the new Xbox will be backwards compatible, at least with downloaded games, and there will be a way to transfer your license and save file onto the new console. Also, don't expect community mods or user created skins. I am 99% sure it will still be a closed system.
True.. But 4j said themselves that they will provide DLC expansion packs inspired by famous pc mods.
That's DLC. OP asked if they would allow modding on the new console. If anything, they will make it even more difficult to mod, not to mention the new BIOS chips will probably be ridiculously high priced.
Also, to everyone, all the articles I've read say that no new consoles will have backwards-compatibility. At least not the Sony or Microsoft consoles, the articles could be wrong though.

yea ouya is an open source system fully open to hacks and mods and the minecraft on the ouya will actually be pc minecraft so yeah minecraft on xbox would just be completely ****ed not to mention the ouya is gonna be only 100 dollars and they even said that at first release of the system most games will be free! so im kinda worried to be honest

Lmao you really think that will work? With over 8 million Xboxs, if they all go up for sale at the same time you're not going to get **** for them. Nobody will want the old 360s when the new ones come out. If the discs won't work anymore, nobody will want the discs either. It's really basic supply and demand. When there's a huge supply, and a very small demand, prices drop WAY ****in down.

There is no way that Ouya will run the PC version of Minecraft.
If the Xbox 360 cannot do it, and the Xbox 360 is more powerful than Ouya, there is no way a little $100 Android based platform could do it.

dude the specs are better than my friends desktop computer which runs minecraft plus the shaders mod with no lag at all so there is no doubt in my mind that the ouya will be just fine with minecraft

You friend needs a computer built after 1990 then.
Ouya specs: Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of flash storage
That is not better than the Xbox 360. The only thing better there is the 1GB of RAM. That is a very strong tablet processor. Capable of running things like Angry Birds and other mobile games flawlessly. Ouya will have the strength of an Ipad or other gaming tablets.
That processor can produce this
While that is impressive, it's nowhere near current/next gen consoles or PCs.
Here is a lovely comparison of both the Xbox 360 and PS3 vs Ouya. If you read this, which came right from the Ouya forums, you'll clearly see that the only advantage the Ouya has over the 360 and PS3 is it's RAM. That's all.
Right, the OUYA's spec's are pretty awesome and having that amount of RAM would be nice for us to be able to load a tonne of resources into... but comparing the big *2* Vs the OUYA goes down something like this:
Huge step-up to the 360s CPU and whilst the GPUs clock cycles are a little lower, the sheer number of threads (6x as many!) throws this on the 360. Although, I have read that Epic were given 2 options early on: More RAM (from the originally proposed 256MB) or a standard hard disk across all version and they opted for more RAM. So that would certainly play a part in helping how much one can throw at the OUYA.
But, having worked on both the top-end Android tablets and the 360, I think without doubt gonna have to give it to the 360!
You can still do some impressive things with the OUYA (and any higher end Android device), but it's just not quite there.
PlayStation 3:
- CPU: 3.2GHz STI Cell Broadband Engine (1xPPU and 6xSPU)
- GPU: 550MHz "Reality Synthesizer" (not a lot of details out there, but guesses are at 24 shader units)
- RAM: 256MB System and 256MB Dedicated graphics
Right, the Cell Broadband, as we've probably all read, is a difficult one to call in this "processor versus processor" argument, but the raw power when done right is phenomenal! I know that IBM (one of the 3 in the STI group) sell entire servers jammed full of the stuff... so it must be good! And again, the GPU here, even if it does have the guessed 24 shaders, still has 3x as many as in the OUYA.
When it comes to our "Rubix cubed" sized device, we win on RAM... and that's about it.
I still believe it's more than capable of producing some incredible titles, but we're somewhere in the realm of early-360 or even before this generation entirely. But, with that said, it's all about how you optimize, so we might see something awesome! We're working on some stuff that's nowhere near publicly visible - but when it is, I'll either jump for joy that we eked that last bit of power out of the target device (testing on a similar Android tablet to the OUYA) or wince as there's no conceivable way to compete.
Some people seem to think they have the right to mod since they bought the game and console.. Others say that while you bought the game, it was under the Tos that stated otherwise... I think DLC would be a good compromise between the two.
I think modders should only be banned from ranked matches. It doesn't make sense to cut off internet access for something somebody did to their own property. What if you couldn't change your PC's hardware, and if you were caught your computer would be banned from the internet? Everyone would be outraged, why should it be different for a console? All the Xbox 360 is, is a computer designed for a specific purpose.
Why would they make a new minecraft just because the new Xbox it's going to come out? I'm pretty sure the new Xbox will allow people to play the current arcades,GoD etc we have right now, it's all digital. Also the new Xbox it's not a couple of years away, it's actually coming out holiday of 2013, so be ready for next year E3 when Microsoft unveils it.
Well, that's what happens when I say "Mods" and not "DLCs".
Anyways, I suppose the conclusion is that hopefully, we can transfer our
profiles and games over to the new xbox and it won't be a problem.
I hadn't thought about that...

- Tegra 3 (T33)
- CPU: ARM CortexA9, Quad Core @ 1.6GHz (or 1.7GHz in single-core mode)
- GPU: 520MHz ULP GeForce (8 pixel shader units)
- RAM: 1GB 1600MHz DDR3
Those are pretty much the only numbers that'll tell us what the OUYA is capable of, graphically. I would guess at no hyper-threading, or equivalent.
Xbox 360:
- CPU: Tri-Core Xenon PowerPC @ 3.6GHz (with 2 threads per core, giving 6 threads)
- GPU: 500MHz ATI Xenos (48 pixel shader units)
- RAM: 512MB 700MHz DDR3
Huge step-up to the 360s CPU and whilst the GPUs clock cycles are a little lower, the sheer number of threads (6x as many!) throws this on the 360. Retired StaffThe Ouya is weaker than the Xbox 360 or PS3 so there is no way it's better than your friends custom built gaming PC.
