This thread is not me whining about 1.8, it is me estimating the time between 1.8 and 1.2.3 NOT because I can't wait for it, but i'm trying to find if 4J can actually catch up to the PC version of Minecraft.
I am not aware of what causes 1.8 to take so long, whether it be the coding or the amount of things added, I wasn't the greatest about learning the insides of these games. But what I do know is that 1.0 for the PC was released November 18th. Since we are skipping straight to 1.2.3, we will have all of the features from 1.9, 1.0, and so on. If 4J really wanted to catch up to the PC version, they would try to relase 1.2.3 a little before november 18th.
Now my theory was that 1.8 took a very long time because of the a different coding or amount of things implemented (Note: correct me if you want to and give your theory, I mentioned before I wasn't the best knowing the insides to these games). When Notch added features into the PC version, he took time to think saying "I should add cats, or maybe bow enchantments, or maybe Jungle biomes" but since we are in the future we already know what are in these updates and I believe, with all of this evidence, we should be seeing 1.2.3 earlier than the PC.
However, we're basically stuck in the middle of nowhere when 1.2.3 comes out, unless 4J says they will be adding more updates, I hope to god they actually do.
Minecraft was released for the Xbox on May 9th. We saw the first update which patched a couple of bugs June 5th (about a month later). We then saw 1.7.3 on July 13th (a little over a month later) then another patch that addressed some bugs about a couple of weeks ago (another month later). 4J seems to give us the big updates about every 2 months with a bug fix in between. 1.8.3 should be out mid September or maybe a little bit later since it's a really big update.
P.S. I'm sure 4J will still support this game even after 1.2.3.
I'm pretty sure Microsoft has an actual release plan that has to be followed with all of it's games. We'll never see updates as fast as they are on the PC because Mojang isn't restricted as to when they can release their updates.

I thinks that why we're skipping straight to 1.2.3. They might skip to 1.3 after a
few updates if we're lucky

I am pretty sure about the update thing too because Halo Reach gets updated once per month too (although Reach pretty much sucks now IMO).

Yes, but that doesn't mean 4J just sits around doing nothing except waiting for the update to release. They could already be working on the next one.
A bit off topic, but I thought Reach was fun, but it didn't
feel like a Halo game. I love SWAT though.
More off-topicness: No sequels will ever be as awesome as Halo 2 was. The only good thing to come out of the new Halo's is Forge. Everything else just over-complicates the game and takes away some of the basic fun, imo.

Yeah, I got a little off topic there.
Anyway, the coding is probably taking the longest. The program that runs minecraft on PC and XBOX are different. 1.8 has to have a major recoding as a result.

Does this benefit my theory of 1.8 taking a long time because of the coding?
That's why I assumed 1.2.3's waiting period will be shorter than that of 1.8

Yup, 1.8 has more changes to the game mechanics (hunger, generated structures) than 1.2.3.
This update is the one I'm most looking forward too. Alot of people were hyped about the Piston update and yeah pistons are cool but I am so much more excited for this upcoming update and it feels like it's taking forever(Now i know how the 1.7.3 people felt) Anyways we can all guess when it's coming and most likely it will be here sometime in late September but we still don't know for sure until 4J throws us a skeleton bone on twitter
I dont Mind if update come out late september. So many good games coming out! Counter strike coming out tomorrow then borderlands 2.
Holy [email protected]#t! Counter Strike is coming out tomorrow!? I've never played the PC version and I've heard so many good things about it and this game I'm so looking forward to. Just to reemphasize my statement Is it really coming tomorrow?

I'm more excited about redstone lamps so I can make lightswitches along my house.
Theres just so much stuff I can't wait for, especially when the fences attach to walls

Any opinions on the matter?
