Here's something to boggle the mind:
The PC one may continue to evolve and get updated.
The xbox one? With a whole new system coming out with new capabilities, can you say "Minecraft II"?
I'd be happy either way. Even if the Xbox version goes stale, it'd be likely that they would release it as a full game on an actual disk! No more messing with Xbox live for updates! *Optimism*
"Impossible" is too strong a word, but I would agree it is so improbable that it will never happen. The world-size issue alone is enough to snuff that idea, and it's far from the only issue. The only way to do it would be the PC game emulating the conditions of the XBLA game.

I agree, but even the ability to emulate the Xbox's conditions would be enough to make me happy. Just being able to manipulate the maps through the PC would make it worth it.
People keep on saying that the XBOX can't handle the PC version when it probably can because the laptop i have isn't half as good as my XBOX so i could probably run it it just would take forever to get XBOX updated to PC because of the 'language' aspect and changing it all to C++.
So it could possibly work if not and you just want to play with friends the XBOX edition can go up to 4 players split screen on HD TV.
Without considering the actual changes that would have to happen to both systems/versions of the game, this would be a cool addition, finally get to have those PC vs. Console wars that everyone has been dying to have and be able to work together instead of just saying who is better. It would be a nice dream.
This will NEVER EVER happen two completely programming languages, and the xbox has no were near enough power to be able to host 64 player-worlds ... maybe next generation if the 720 has Java then I can see it happening, right now its just impossible.
Next-gen consoles supporting Java? I seriously hope you're joking...
As a machine that prides itself for utilizing its hardware with extreme efficiency, there is no way the console pushers would deviate from C++. The main reason games are even programmed in Java is because it makes cross-platform multiplayer easy. Without too much alteration, a Java game can be played between Windows, OSX, and Linux users. You won't find very many games made exclusively for Windows that were coded in Java. C++ is the programming language when it comes to superior memory management, the downside being it is one of the most difficult languages to learn.
OK, so I know that you can DEFINETELY do xbox-pi cross-play, but I don't know about PC-xbox............. The Raspberry Pi is a mini-computer for about $30, I reccomend it if you want to play with your buddy that has a xbox.

I throw babies, punch old people, burn stuff, and eat crisp kittens for BREAKFAST
Different codes.
Maybe... If next gen use PC coding we can have cross platform via a direct pot of PC version.
That would make work on minecraft a hell of a lot easier.
PC old still continue to test snapshots for us unless we can aswell.
Then when the update is released it will have less bugs and can go straight to a content adding update like we see on PC getting so much new content every few months.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
As much as everybody would like it, the XBLA version is never going to 'catch up' with the PC version
well not everyone... But the statemnet is true that xbox will never = pc...
I for one don't really care if it ever catches up as I don't look at the xbox edtion that way. it is its' own game, same as the pc edition. Both separate and doing slight difference at the moment...Slight when considering the version, not current. Cross-platform even if I can see a good thing out of it, just would not ever be possible. I would rather have servers added to minecraft, so xbox has a chance to run 24/7 on its' own fruition.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
As soon as minecraft for xbox 360 is updated to the same level they should make it so that xbox people start up the game then have the option added to the main screen to access server address like on PC minecraft. That should let people join PC servers.
If they did that I would buy PC version on minecraft just to host an XBOX only server. I wouldn't care that I had to buy it twice and minecraft would prob explode on xbox as well. I like the controller but enjoy the idea of playing on a server.
I made a server on xbox 360 that was flooded but the xbox overheated and then I didn't have creative mode. If they did that I would re-open my server 24/7 for everyone (unless there was a way to make it xbox only)
I would also like an option if that becomes a possibility that only certain people can edit and they need to request editing permission...if it doesn't already exist.
Just to help with the idea...make it so the xbox people need a PC log in to do it...then I wouldn't care but I would buy 2 coppies of the PC version. 1 to host a server and 1 to play it.
Please if anyone else agrees or has anything else to add speak up and if we are EXTREMLY lucky they will read this and do it.
if you read the new launcher, they have a pre-release jar for cross platform play "develoment" but I can't find how to set it up yet. I read by this winter PC/xbox/mac cross play should be fully inabled!!!

Probably not. Pc uses Java , Xbox uses C++ . Two different languages all together .
If anything were to happen the pc players would be forced to play in smaller worlds with less players more than likely. Unless they add infinite terrain , still I think max players on Xbox would be 24 .
There are many things in life that are different but related and can be transformed or translated to the other. Cant someone come up with a way to bridge the languages?

You should probably disregard the first part of that post. Whether or not computers can talk to each other has absolutely nothing to do with what language they were written in. If it did, your computer wouldn't work at all because I guarantee that many of the programs you use on your machine, or the external function/procedure calls they make were made with different programming languages.
If that first statement were in any way true, your computer would not be able to communicate with itself at all.
I won't belabor the issue, just read a lot of the comments that follow, other posters go into pretty good detail as to correct that claim and underline the specific challenges that are faced with merging the 2 gaming environments. Getting programs to interact is more about how you handle the data that is passed between the systems than it has to do with what computer programming language was used to make it. But let me highlight a couple of them below:
Hardware differences in platforms makes limitations on what you can do with a world in one environment as opposed to the other environment, which means you would need to employ a strategy to accommodate those limitations. (ie. How does it handle the larger PC world when trying to incorporate the smaller xBox world?)
Different Game overall, there is a distinct difference between the TU14 MCX360 version and the MCJVM 1.7.2 version. (ie. How do you handle stuff that exists in one environment, PC, but not the other, xBox, such as colored glass, horses, mules, donkeys, hoppers, comparators, droppers, lead lines, solar panels, emeralds, coal blocks, other new block types, etc.).
I'd be happy either way. Even if the Xbox version goes stale, it'd be likely that they would release it as a full game on an actual disk! No more messing with Xbox live for updates! *Optimism*

well as the op said he would like to play pc but he likes the feel of the xbox controller the wired controller seems to be the cheaper option for this (although i hate cables i prefer wireless) http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/pc-games/xbox-controller-for-windows-setup#0dfd4736c87a40f8aa6f62549920bce0 (if you dont have a disk you can get the software from the microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/downloads) i do hope this helped as ive seen xbox controllers used to play the old saints row 2 and i might actually have a look into this idea myself now because i like the sound of it
