would build around my spawn area and use a part of it to indicate the direction people should travel when they first join the world.
From all I had found the spawn rules are they spawn in a certain area (which I found using the no lava placement) and "within the first available space above sea level" However when i drop in a random guest, they load ON the building.
Is there a specific height I need to get in there or some such to not spawn on the top ?
New players drop in from the sky, the start on the highest block under them in their spawning location. You physically cant make some spawn inside a building, they will always spawn on top of it. Make you spawn open air and have it lead down into a building.
I've got a sand-pillar with torches on it, and a sign... within sight of another sign... and then another... that lead away from the spawn about 30 or 40 blocks to a small shelter (in case they come in at night). Signs include the "house rules" + coordinates for the main structures further off on the map. I'm thinking of laying down a road, probably gravel, leading to the main compound.
