When Im trimming the top of a hill or mountain for buildings, I occasionally find iron or coal where the floor work is soon to be. Most times, especially for coal, I just remove the block and fill it in. Sometimes, though, finding Iron ore right in the center or coal along the edges makes for that personal touch in my builds. However, I will NOT replace that iron if I had already removed it. It just isn't the same. haha.
Coal, to me, is special because it cannot be restored to its original block form once broken. If I can be so lucky as to have a chunk of coal blocks in the center of my room's floor, I try my best to mold it into a pattern.
No, I don't do this. I like my stuff to look good, as opposed to, well, having a bunch of bloody ores stuck in the floor.
I think you might've misunderstood my post. I don't just leave a random block on some random spot on the foor. What I mean is that I'll never pass up the opportunity of having a center chunk of iron in the middle of my floor. I also add decorative designs, like outlines of wood or Lapiz blocks around this iron. It may look ugly in scattered places, but in the right situation it can look distinctive. Also, I never place the iron back after breaking it, or even scoot it a block or so over. Its like breaking the bond Ive made with myself and my mountain.
You should have a redstone floor, pistons would allow you to move them and then your floor would light up
I always wondered that, but I don't like building underground homes nor do I have the patience of clearing the map until I reach redstone level. This idea for me, good sir, will have to wait for creative or superflat maps....but thanks for the idea : )
Furnishing an above-ground cave? Personally, 100% self-made builds are starting to get a little old. Ive started incorporating the seed's design into my builds. I would keep the cave 99% intact, just add stairs, furniture, and wood walls to separate rooms. Not as good looking as most other things you can make, but its kind of fun seeing what you can accomplish.

Does anybody do this, too?
