Just wanted to know if anyone has a good system for lighting up caves. My reasoning is that I just built one layer of ethos latest mob grinder design. That layer won't even spawn more than two or three mobs, I imagine this is because of caves near by. I was instructed to simply light them up, what's the best way to go about this?
Candles. You can make them easily on the fly, and plant them just about anywhere. I usually place them on walls as soon as the light begins to fade as I walk through. There is little reason to be skimpy with them.
I'm sorry, Mabey I wasn't clear. I understand how to use torches, I'm looking for a good system for lighting hidden caves to increase the efficiency of my mob grinder.
When in doubt drop a torch, with the last lighting update perhaps drop them more often than usual. I would guess that you have another cave undiscovered yet that is near your grinder.
There is no best way to light up caves. Just light it up, torches, glowstone, jack-o-lanterns, netherrack + flint and steel. Dig around every now and then to find the small hidden areas.
It seems as though you are asking how to light caves you haven't uncovered yet. Is this accurate? If so, it seems like a nonsense question. How are you supposed to light up something you haven't been in? If you are asking about an efficient way to light a cave, pour lava in it if you don't plan on going back.
I said "candles". Duh. I meant torches. I guess I'm confused about what the OP is asking too. You light places up by lighting them up, and there is no cheaper or easier way to do that than torches.
Just walk around already explored caves and listen for mobs. Then dig in the general direction. Other then using bugs like the xray you cant really find them any other way. If you find a cave system ending with dirt or gravel, mine it. Theres a good chance the cave continues beyond it.
